What's new

Pakistan - Iran relations

US signed a nuclear deal with India. Iran had referred to the deal as western double standards because they opposed Iran's nuclear weapons program but went ahead and signed one with India.
Well Iran was upset because India opposed Iran's nuclear programme .The Indian vote in favour of the IAEA resolution was of course in keeping with the position taken by the overwhelming majority (2/3rd) of the board members. But then that day even countries including Russia and Pakistan neither supported nor opposed the resolution. Except Venezula nobody opposed that resolution.

Another incident that damaged relations was the attack in India on the Israeli consul. It was said to be orchestrated by Iran. India and Iran are not as close as Pakistan and Iran are. Even the mullahcracy in Iran would say the same.
To India Iran is just as important as Israel.
Now despite the decline in our strategic and military links, India and Iran continue to maintain strong cultural and economic ties. Lucknow continues to be a major centre of Shia culture and Persian study in South Asia. And lets not forget that Iran is the second largest supplier of crude oil to India and consequently India is one of the largest foreign investors in Iran's oil and gas industry.
Soo I guess having a febrile debate about Iran's relations with India is futile.

.
I see it in different way. The investment from the eastern neighbor of Pakistan to the Western neighbor of Pakistan will bring their influence with investment too. And looking at recent statement and attitude of Iran it is quite visible now.

.

Not so sure about the investment changing the political atmosphere to be very honest. You're forgetting the dragon of Asia rising up aka China ;). I personally believe that the West doesn't want this trifecta China-Pak-Iran to get strong in this region and form a unified alliance. Certain forces are hell-bent at making sure that Pak and Iran keep as distant as possible. If these three countries sort their issues out and get closer, then Afghanistan-Central Asia won't have much space left for the West either. China and Russia are already getting closer with every passing day. Had Pak-Iran made that pipeline and the Gwadar thing had been fast-tracked , the next decade would have seen a completely new set of scenarios. (Take a wild guess as to why it's so slow )
So you'll see more and more foreign-funded mess in the border regions with Iran in the coming future but this can still be controlled. Pak military establishment should bypass the federal and provincial governments, increase funding for education , make some polytechnic institutions and other colleges in Balochistan, watch the border carefully for certain elements, fasten the Gwadar construction and make Iran feel safe that whatever issues Pakistan has is going to be taken care of. I truly believe that we can take care of this fallout.
This is Asia's game changer if it goes through. Trust me.
Long live Iran-Pakistan friendship!

No. Countries can not waltz in and out of treaties as and when they like.
Iran can not get out of NPT easily now. There will be costs to pay. Sanctions is one of them.

Under development. That is what the West is trying to stop.

Oh yeah! And it has been under development and "within 3 month period of reaching an operational warhead" for holong? 10 years now? Come on! Think a little.

A simple question for you: How long does a country that can send satellites into sky, enrich Uranium up to 20% and build submarines require to build a bomb? USA, with the technology of 1940s was able to develop the first two warheads within 2 years. Do you seriously think today's Iran's Technology is inferior to that of USA back in 1940? Don't you think if Iran really wanted it had tested the first warhead 8 years ago and wouldn't have to waste its time with all this negotiation nonsense now? It is not about nuclear warhead. It is about squeezing Iran to comply with their demands. That's all it is about.

. . .
your kidding right...that pipeline is going to be another kala bagh.

No, this pipeline is part of China investment, read this.

''The LNG pipeline will be extended from Gwadar to Iran for gas import when sanctions on Tehran are lifted. Its capacity will be one billion cubic feet per day.

The pipeline will have the same specifications that were proposed for the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline including a diameter of 42 inches.''

Investment in Gwadar: China to help build $3b LNG pipeline and terminal

Holefully by then sanctions will be lifted on Iran.

.
IP is on track, Pakistan is going to build pipeline and wait for sanctions on Iran to be lifted.

Coming to that it makes me wonder that the Iranians are sanctioned which has affected the economy On the other hand a blind eye was turned to India's first nuclear venture in 1974. Not only that the US signed a peace deal with them. Israel too has nukes so why isn't that nation sanctioned.

US and even UN double standards are visible everywhere. I have no problem in Iran acquiring a nuke. This trying to get Iran to abandon its nuclear program defeats the entire purpose of it and shows that certain countries are being bullied into submission by US Israeli alliance.

Saudis are no good, Iranians are just okay, I got no hate/love for them.

That was funny. After 1974 they sanctioned us created NSG.Completely isolated us from international nuke subjects.
They signed nuke deal not because of partiality. They knew their sanctions was ineffective against us we created our own world class nuke tech. They also need a fairshare of energy projects.
Israel is an entire different case. And we are not Israel.

I wont get into arguments Arminkh. There is credible proof with the International Community that Iran was attempting to build nuclear weapons. After Iran signed the NPT, building nuclear weapons is not an option for Iran.

Please, never let facts come in the way of your tirade against the 'bullying' by US Israeli alliance.
India was sanctioned, so was Pakistan.

And this despite the fact that neither India or Pakistan signed the NPT.

Both India and Pakistan's sanctions were removed at a later stage. It is not upto 'you' to decide whether there is a problem in Iran having nuclear weapons. Its a question of International Treaties.

Iran signed the NPT and took the benefits that the Great Powers were offering to every country in exchange of signing the NPT. You cannot back out of international treaties unilaterally. Comprehending this part - that Iran is a signatory to the NPT seems to be difficult for you since you consistently ignore this.

.
PK and Iran dont have any meaningful relations since the fall of the Shah in ~78-79. we sell them rice and cement. thats it.

.
As long as Pakistan remains a Saudi puppet state, the relationship with Iran would continue to be cold.

Yes, that's what we've been hearing for a very long time but have not seen those credible proofs yet. All west has been asking so far is for us to stop enriching. There has never been any reference to any illegal activity in any of the resolutions. All NPT has been saying is that they are not able to confirm peacefulness of our nuclear program (since a number of countries font want NPT to confirm it) but the have not been able to prove otherwise either.
