Pakistan in talks for 4 Ada Class Corvettes, T-129 Helicopters & modernization of agosta fleet

. . .
We have been interested in the MILGEM project for quite some time now. The main stories have sadly been about the Ada Class Corvettes and not the TF-100 Istanbul class frigates. While Ada class do not offer much improvement over other possible options we can go for (read Chinese) the TF-100 will surely bring in some extra goodies and more importantly give a perfect launch pad/base to go for TF-2000 air defense frigates at some point in future.

The question however remains that what it will be that we go for. I just hope and pray that it is TF-100 frigates. Ada class corvettes wont be a huge coup!

It can be for the T-129.

well ganga visited Turkey not too long ago, so i'm assuming something important is going to take place that's why he's there again. Hopefully the news is true but i'm still very skeptical.

Did you look into the pics of the daddy.
As much as I like the Talwar class, your post evokes just one response "My, an update of a Soviet era Krivak class frigate. We should all be scared now?" Can we get over this now?

fake news

anyway the frigate is useless without air defence.
even small Chinese coverts have better airdefence
How can you state this without even knowing anything about what ship exactly is expected?
Batch 2 Ada (TF-100 Istanbul) has 2x8 VLS Mk41 IIRC.
If it is Ada and fitted with RAM then the RAM block 2 missile would give 22.5km range rather than 9km for the older RAM missiles, as compared to 12km HQ7/FM80 or 15km HQ7/FM90 and 9 km for FL-3000M.

Longer range missiles would be nice, but are not a necessity for PN: they should be operating under land based air cover (to take care of flying launch platforms) and have sufficient range AShM (to take care of sea based launch platforms).

Why? (is this necessary?)

Interesting, first time a see an actual Mk 49 RAM launcher with fewer than the normal 21 rounds. This clearly is the missile pod from SeaRAM. There used to be a 5-round pod for insertion into the Mk29 GWLS (for Sea Sparrow), of which the pods were also used for a light (lighter than Mk 49) 10-round launcher (2x5). THe only suggested application a saw for this was a frigate proposed by Litton-Ingalls for the international market, essentially a big brother to the Sa'ar-5 for the Israeli navy.

The 2x5 RAM 'alternate launching system' (ALS) was developed by one Per Udsen of Denmark for use in smaller warships.

As for RAM from Mk 29, see Norman Friedman - The Naval Institute guide to world naval weapon systems 2006 ( books.google.nl/books?isbn=1557502625 ):
Page 592: "It is not clear whether Mk 29 launchers will be modified to fire RAM (according to past reports, they will not)."

Page 413: "All installations use the 21-rnd mk 49 box launcher. Proposals for modification of the Sea Sparrow and Mk 13 launchers failed, and Hughes' vertical launcher was rejected for the last LHDs (to avoid introducing a unique system). Proposals have been made for launchers to be mounted alongside the standard U.S. 5 inch gun and atop the Contraves Sea Shield Mount"
