What's new

Pakistan helped US get Osama, insists Hersh

60 f-16 is around 10 billion USD. You seriously think USA will pay 10 billion USD for capture or death of osama?

USA spent ONE TRILLION dollars in the Afghan war

And the only satisfaction it has achieved is that OBL was killed

The Taliban have been dislodged but the war rages on

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now imagine that OBL would have never been found
The Whole one trillion dollars was a waste

And if OBL had been found earlier ; as soon as he entered Pakistan
the US troops could have withdrawn earlier

OBL stayed in Pakistan for FIVE years

So suppose he was killed in 2006 ; US troops could have withdrawn
in December 2008 ; they FINALLY withdrew in 2014 December

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now do the MATHS
SIX Divided by THIRTEEN = 0.46

Let us round it to 0.4

0.4 * 1000 = 400

SO US could have saved at least 400 Billion dollars if OBL had been killed earlier

Now JUST FIVE percent of 400 Billion is 20 Billion dollars

So Pakistan could have easily claimed at least 20 Billion dollars as a REWARD
for KILLING OBL earlier

USA still has not withdrawn from afganistan, mind you. which means they have other objectives than simply bumping off Osama.
disruption in AQ's network and send a message by toppling regime that tolerates AQ was also the objective, not killing just one guy and declare victory.

If Pakistan had helped USA in this ; they would have got Billions in aid

You didn't read the entire OP. Pakistan was forced to assist the US to follow along with the 'staged operation', given the circumstances.

From the OP:
According to Mr Hersh, when the CIA asked Pakistani officials to make the May 2, 2011, operation at OBL’s compound in Abbottabad a surprise raid, they agreed “because they had kept OBL in custody without telling us”.

The Americans were already very upset and the Pakistanis did not want to make it worse, he added.

The US maintains just ten thousand troops today

And till 2012 they had one hundred Thousand troops

The cost of One trillion is till the date of Declaration that the War is over
ie December 2014

The costs after 2014 are separate ; they are for supporting the Afghan Government

All the other objectives such as stopping Taliban ; AL qaeda ; ISIS etc are secondary

They can be managed by minimum force levels and Air power
The main objective of US was killing OBL

Therefore as soon as OBL died the Pentagon started a withdrawl strategy
and within two years troop numbers came to half

Read this about the phased withdrawl from 2012 onwards

Americans have ZERO credibility, every time they open their mouths to speak, we know they are lying.

We have refuted Mr. Hersh’s claim before and we reiterate that this story has no truth to it. Last year, White House National Security spokesman Ned Price said in a statement, “The notion that the operation that killed Usama Bin Ladin was anything but a unilateral U.S. mission is patently false.” He had further said, “Knowledge of this operation was confined to a very small circle of senior U.S. officials. The President decided early on not to inform any other government, including the Pakistani Government, which was not notified until after the raid had occurred.” Price said, “We had been and continue to be partners with Pakistan in our joint effort to destroy al-Qa'ida, but this was a U.S. operation through and through.”

This was not a staged operation. Kindly refrain from promoting conspiracy theories.

It is common knowledge that the real reason to invade Iraq was due to Saddam Hussein switching to Euro for its oil exports. WMD based accusation was just a cover-up.

US couldn't say to the world that since Iraq has decided to ditch USD for its oil exports, we plan to destroy it in response. Think about it.

Things from OBL raid that do not make sense to me:

1) Pakistan equipped with Saab 2000 & other Early warning radars was unable to detect 2 helicopters?
(Stealth does NOT make aircraft "invisible" - it only reduces the range at which aircraft can be detected)

2) Abbottabad with most secured army basses never launched its quick response teams?

3) Why there is no Helmet cam footage?

4) Dropping his body at sea? LOL how convenient, just take their word for it right?

5) Team members responsible for the OBL raid are dead - cutting loose ends??

Hersh's lies become more apparent:

A lay-man doesn't understands the weaknesses of such systems. But you can expect American military forces having such knowledge.

2) Abbottabad with most secured army basses never launched its quick response teams?
The raid was carried out in the night and helicopters were mistaken to be Pakistani. Pakistani security forces did dispatch teams to the scene but the raid was over when they arrived. They did see one of the helicopters depart from the scene. All of this information is in the Abbottabad Commission Report. In-fact, a Pakistani spotted those helicopters on their way to Abbottabad but Americans got to him; he disclosed this information to the commission. There were 4 helicopters involved in total.

Abbottabad is not a border region or FOB, it is a city. Nobody over there expected a foreign military force to conduct a raid. Therefore, SOP for intercepting them were not there.

3) Why there is no Helmet cam footage?
Some records are never revealed to the public. But perhaps in the future.

4) Dropping his body at sea? LOL how convenient, just take their word for it right?
US offered Saudi Arabia to take his body for burial but were refused (according to leaked details).

5) Team members responsible for the OBL raid are dead - cutting loose ends??

Al-Qaeda promised to take revenge for death of OBL. Somebody might have tipped them off?

B/W One of the soldiers - who participated in the raid - have described it in great detail in his book: http://www.amazon.com/No-Easy-Day-Autobiography-Firsthand/dp/0525953728

I saw this book in local markets some months back. Not sure if it is available now.
