Amin! I don't mean to question the soviets power. They're mighty back then but again, you should read about American lend lease for Soviets as well as UK. It played an amazing role in strengthening us economy.
Without lend lease program Soviets would have been defeated by Germans, at least I strongly believe that. Do give it a read, you'll really enjoy that. I recommend it.

India signed a two-year cultural agreement today with the Afghan Government of Babrak Karmal, which is supported by the Soviet Union.

The Afghan Foreign Minister, Shah Mohammed Dost, who is leading a delegation that is asking India to increase technical and economic assistance for the Afghan economy, was to meet with Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi today.

The cultural agreement provides for exchanges of scholars, scientists, archivists, historians, artists, dancers, journalists, sports teams, films and books. India is to give 10 research fellowships to Afghans and train Afghans in the repair of historical monuments and the excavation of ancient sites.

This is not an emotional speech but a reminder of factual position. Defeat of Soviet Union in Afghanistan played a crucial role in the eventual dissolution of the state and of the only other super power at that time. And credit of that defeat goes more so to Pakistan than any other actor or factor.

RAWALPINDI: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor has said Pakistan’s constructive role globally helped the United States become the sole super power.

Addressing a press briefing this evening, the military’s spokesperson said Trump’s turbulent tweet [against Pakistan] on January 1 affected the regional politics. “The region is moving from geo-politics to geo-economy which everyone needs to understand.”

DG ISPR said India should be thankful to Pakistan for its role of buffer and cooperation with world powers for fighting War against militants.

He said if India continues to see CPEC with political lens, it will affect countries which are due to get benefits from the Pak-China corridor project. We have to take relative stability to enduring stability in the current economic condition, he added.

He said India committed 398 ceasefire violations along the border. He said the Indian aggression along Working Boundary and LoC was uncalled-for.

He said after COAS visit, Pakistan and Iran’s border cooperation has improved. The upsides of the army chief’s visit have begun to reflect now, he added.

He said our forces have been training Saudi forces since 1982 bilateral security agreement. “Our new batch of forces has not yet left for Saudi Arabia, but once an understanding reaches in this regard our forces will depart for the Kingdom.”
