What's new

Pakistan has placed order of Russian Gunship Helicopters - Dawn

Why are they going after that fat stinger bait?
Why can't they buy one of them mi28 havocs? The'yll get the job done as good as any of those fancy mohawk/apaches but at 1/2 the price

Why dont you people read the whole thread before asking such questions?
3 main reasons:
1.Lack of funds
2.Mi-35 can carry 6-8 soldiers so they can be deployed in opeartions against TTP
3.A cheaper heli which works as "flying tank"

That bloooooows, just strap on 20mm on an mi 8/mi 17 if they want something to fit that role

Pakistan should be looking for a joint venture in Helicopter Gunships with a TOT.

We need to develop our Manufacturing skills and knowledge in Helicopters.

Indian would probably offer LCA. That is a 4.5 generation and maybe they will offer LCA-2 that seems to be 6.0 according to Indian website... Seriously, It is not in the interest of India to stop it. Nobody takes them seriously and it would become even worser.

You can sell them whatever you want. We have excellent ties with Myanmar.

But what will happen when Bangladesh and Myanmar end up using FC-1s in their air forces? Both have the same MiG-29/FC-1 configuration jets and hypothetically speaking, a conflict between these two would simply test your reliability as suppliers.

Here in Europe or elsewhere they have often the same weapons (there are not many suppliers...). What option do you have... French, UK, USA, China and Russia?

What makes you sure that both Fc1 will have same config? You have different types of K8, F7 etc...

The MI -35 Helicopter is ideal from Pakistani Military stand point

a) Its an armored Tank , that can destroy camps and hiding grounds in middle of night (Nigh Vision)
b) The helicopters can support Ground Troops and Tanks and Armored vehicles (Operational Support)
c) They also have large room and can carry 6-7 Soldiers , imagien 5 helicopters flying in and droping 50 troops in a zone
d) They also can be used for Humanitarian missions (Saving lives) like in floods or earth quake
e) Since we haev already operated Russian Helicopters , we have necessary means to repair the MI-35 platform

The biggest use is for cases when Terrorist hide in caves or in buildings the helicopters can help nutralize them from the building

50-100 Mi-35 do enhance the operational capcity of Armed forces by great deal

Well 2014's end , we were told we will also seal Submarine deal , so together with Helicopter deal it would be a great 2014 end

While the Helicopter you mention MI -28 Havocs is wonderful weapon

However , we must first take baby steps to induct appropriate number of Heavy Armored Helicopters like MI-35 that offer great ground support and Tactical Mission support for Military units. The advantage of having MI-35 offers protection in air for our units moving in ground (Tanks, Vehicles , Troops) and also it can help ambush enemy lines by droping 6-8 units behind to cause disruptions.

Not to mention the same helicopter can also airlift troops and injured to safe places

Perhaps in future the MI-28 can be an excellent addition no doubt about it

The Stinger threat can also be minimized with appropriate flare systems for helicopter usage and not to mention no such weapons exist now with Terrorist

For me

a) Ability to Drop troops behind enemy lines is great plus
b) Ability to have rescue missions across enemy lines is a great plus
c) Ability to offer heavy Anti Tank operational capabilities to our Miliatry great plus
d) Ability to take out Enemy infantary on ground great plus

Having night mission capability ... just a double plus

Mi-35 fits well into Pakistani forces requirement hopefully we can see a squadron inducted for special forces uses

How many have been ordered? I still think we should have gone for the chinese WZ10, but it is untestet so I can understand

What about the sound of it approching, doesn't that warn the other side, making the surprise element almost nil.
It is good for dropping special forces, giving them some air cover and exfiltrating them.
