India is geographically locked off from Central Asia and Russia by Pakistan.

The only feasible pipeline route from Russia or Central Asia to India, is through western China.

Since we already have numerous pipelines to Central Asia, and are building many more to Russia.

along with this a pipeline from Iran should also be considered

We don't have any urgent need for this pipeline all options are being considered & yes if feasible we will go for the undersea route through Iran & i think technology has progressed enough that we can build a pipeline there

I think you missed where it says $30 billion investement for land pipeline from Russia and 5 billion from under water pipeline from Iran and Oman.

There is already work planing going on for it, we are building pipeline to Oman for gas, the next phase most likely would be connecting it with Iran.

Skirting Pakistan and in current situations even China, is possible. As friends here have already said, this network from Russia and CARs would be eventually joining pipeline network from Iran and Oman.

In any case, even if we had a choice, building pipelines in the Himalayas and Tibetan region would be a very expensive task as the terrain is too difficult to manage. And hypothetically even if we had Gilgit Baltistan region, we would have not been able to get the pipelines in from Russia into India via the himalayas without seriously damaging the ecology there.

This sea-based pipeline maybe expensive but serves us in the long term.

This benefits all the countries involved: us, Iran, Oman and Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan.
