Pakistan doesn't reopen border despite US apology

as Afghanistan is land-locked and much of their trade is based on agreements and cooperation with Pakistan (e.g. the use of our highways and ports) it damn-well does matter whether Pakistan "likes" it or not

remember, over 3-4+ million of their refugees (some of which are 2nd generation and born in Pakistan) reside in Pakistan Nation; that in itself gives us reason to have much focus on the war-torn country

Agree that Afghanistan is land-locked, but that does not give Pakistan the right to control what goes and what does not go to the Afghan people. There are other routes through China and Iran.

Are these the same refugees who the GoP asked to move out of Pakistan? I am not denying that you have been helpful towards refugees who fled their country after the war, but what have you done for the Afghan people, children in their country to give them reasons to go back to their own country. India is just trying to do that... investing in the basic infrastructure of the country, building schools and hospitals for the people.

Strategic interests should never supercede human needs.

Do you really think US president will do that? As long as there are safe heavens...It will be issues. Of course we would like to work with our friend and ally Pakistan. If they are not willing to do, all options are on the table for the president
Those havens aren't really safe since we have been attacking them as well. We have asked for the relevant equipment to be sold to Pakistan but it hasn't happened so we can't really attack them the way the US wants us to.

We have UAVs, the US wants to sell us more UAVs. We don't have UCAVs.

Not to mention the US is also arming India with all the hi-tech gear that makes us want to focus upon our eastern borders more to prevent an Indian invasion of Pakistan.

We don't care if the devil lives in Pakistan, any attack by the US would be met with extreme hostility from Pakistan. If you want to work together, let the Pakistan government take care of things.

We want to work with our friend and ally the US as well - the US wants us as their *****.

Is that so? What if you have to choose between Kashmere and Afghan? or
What about choosing between UN seat and Afgan?
We got you by your balls

How is it about choosing between Kashmir and Afghanistan? The USA will not dare present such a choice to India, and even if they do, a middle finger is all they'll get in response. Banish that thought. Just yesterday, I was seeing an interview with the US ambassador in which he quickly backpedalled and stoutly denied that the US has ever made any such tradeoff offer, contrary to the rumours which we have been hearing.

The 'UN seat' thingy is more reasonable. Let us see how things shape up, but I have serious doubts that the US will make a tradeoff offer of that kind.

Here is my common sense solution to Afghan problem.

1) India move your A*s out of Afghanistan. If you want to help, you are welcome and route the aid through UN. You don't have a border with Afghan

Who stays, who leaves is a bilateral affair between India and Afghanistan and you are neither.

And for your "border" logic, does the US have a border with Afghanistan.?

What you mean about safe heaven……… actually US want move this WAR towards PAKISTAN after failing in Afghanistan and it is already in his planning before starting WAR in Afghanistan.
Let suppose if we says that there are some safe heaven in Pakistan tribal belt,
So let me ask one question that how these Taliban goes to Afghanistan are they going underground or on the ground.
If they are going underground to Afghanistan so US has right ask from Pakistan that these militant are interring in Afghanistan underground and we cannot trace them so have right strike on them in Pakistan Area.
And the other hand if they are going on the ground ( on the surface of the earth) and interring in Afghanistan and fighting against US NATO so what is doing the (World top class force )US and NATO forces where their latest technologies are. As we know and hear many times that US have technologies that they can trace and hit the moving of a little worms on the earth, So how they failing hitting these militant groups interring in Afghanistan or these Taliban are aliens or ability of disappearing from Cameras or human eyes or they have more advance technologies to jam US technologies?

US may opt for Russian route for Nato supplies

US may opt for Russian route for Nato supplies
LAHORE: As the Pakistani authorities have decided to claim approximately $600 million from the US-led Nato/Isaf forces stationed in Afghanistan as compensation charges for using the country’s extensive road network to transport food and military supplies to the war-torn Afghanistan, the Centcom has moved swiftly to open an alternate supply route to Afghanistan via Russia and Central Asia, bypassing the ambush-prone main supply routes through Pakistan.
The decision is set to hurt Pakistan in financial terms as Islamabad currently receives a huge reimbursement of economic and military services and logistic support provided to the United States. The high command of the US-led allied forces stationed in Afghanistan had earlier warned Pakistan that its failure to prevent rising terrorist attacks targeting the Nato/Isaf supply trucks travelling to Afghanistan via Pakistan could force them abandoning Pakistan as a key supply route for transportation of food and military supplies. Since 2002, three-quarters of all the military equipment and food supplies for the US-led allied forces had been reaching Afghanistan via Pakistan. Before Islamabad decided to suspend the Nato/Isaf supplies last week in the wake of the allied forces’ incursions into the country’s tribal belt, almost 75 percent of the ammunition, vehicles, foodstuff and around 50 percent of fuel for the 140,000-strong international forces fighting against the Mulla Mohammad Omar-led Taliban militia in Afghanistan were being transported via Pakistan.
Well informed diplomatic sources in Islamabad say the Centcom’s decision to choose an alternate supply route to Afghanistan was prompted by Pakistan’s refusal to give a timeline for the resumption of the Nato supplies, which remain suspended at the country’s Torkham border with Afghanistan for a full week now. The US-led allied forces had earlier apologised to the Pakistani authorities over their Thursday’s cross-border helicopters attack that killed three Pakistani soldiers and injured three others. Reacting sharply, Pakistan blocked the main land route Khyber Pass at Torkham for Nato convoys carrying supplies to Afghanistan.
However, the suspension of the Nato/Isaf supplies was not the only action taken by the Pakistani authorities. According to diplomatic sources, the decision makers in Rawalpindi and Islamabad further decided to claim $600 million from Nato/Isaf forces as compensation charges for causing damage to Pakistan’s extensive road network while transporting food and military supplies to Afghanistan since 2002.
The Pakistani authorities have decided to bill the Americans while maintaining that the country is suffering a huge loss of around $83 million annually due to the Nato/Isaf freight truckloads that have badly damaged the national highways network, for the last seven years. They have further argued that the average damage caused by Nato/Isaf on main routes leading to Afghanistan, was 20 percent of the total expenditure incurred on the repair and maintenance of the road infrastructure by the National Highway Authority.
Nevertheless, while ignoring the Pakistan demand for payment of compensation charges, the Centcom high command has decided to open an alternate supply route to Afghanistan via Russia and central Asia.
The diplomatic sources say the alternate supply route starts in the Latvian port of Riga, the largest all-weather harbour on the Baltic Sea, where container ships offload their cargo onto Russian trains. The shipments roll south through Russia, then southeast around the Caspian Sea through Kazakhstan and finally south through Uzbekistan until they cross the frontier into north Afghanistan. The Russian train-lines were in fact built to supply Russia’s own war in Afghanistan in the 1980’s. It was actually in July 2010 that the Americans had finally convinced the Russians to let them use the said supply route. Previously Russia had only allowed the United States to ship non-lethal military supplies across its territory by train. The diplomatic circles say the development is important because it signals Russian willingness to indirectly support the US-led Nato/Isaf forces stationed in Afghanistan.

Iran ofcourse is not an option.

But NAto supplies from Europe will have straight line from UK to Afghanistan if u check the map.

Also its safer , no bomb blasts and no loss of lives.

Transit money Pakistan getting will be given to central asia.
Already good road networks are there.

So this was a move which should have been taken earlier.

Anyway better late than never.

Funnier things have happened in international politics. Who thought that Pakistan would be actually waging a war against Taliban. But in present circumstances, I agree that this is highly improbable. Except if USA offers a major behind the curtains deal to Iran.

Yes, but that journey takes away a major trip via sea to Karachi. And Land route is generally faster. Russia seems a better alternative though
