Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed satisfaction over the current level of relations between Pakistan and Iran, calling for further expansion of bilateral ties in diverse areas.
During a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Islamabad Alireza Haqiqian on Wednesday, Zardari recalled his trips to Tehran and stated that the exchange of visits between Pakistani and Iranian officials attests to their convergence on a host of issues as well as the strong relations between the two neighboring and friendly countries.
He also attributed the increased economic cooperation between Islamabad and Tehran to strenuous efforts made by both Pakistani and Iranian officials, stressing that the two states share common views on a great many regional and international issues.
Haqiqian, for his part, welcomed the advancement of Iran-Pakistan cooperation, expressing hope that Tehran and Islamabad would continue their collaberation in all fields.
President Zardari will complete his five-year term next week.
On August 10, Pakistans president-elect Mamnoon Hussain called for the expansion of ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran in all spheres.
Hussain pointed to the policies of Pakistans next government on promotion of ties with neighboring states and said he expects to travel to Tehran to discuss development of bilateral relations with senior Iranian officials.
On July 30, Hussain, backed by the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-N party, was elected as Pakistans 12th president.
