Pakistan buys Chinese subs to counter India 'threats'

Yeah, I heard they're installing Indian tech in it.

How many AIP subs do you guys have?

no indian tech in Scorpene subs,

They are going for 6 subs as per the initial contract. PN has 3 AIP subs as of now, 6 more to come fom China, total 9 by 2016-17 if all goes as planned.

Why aren't we looking to build more Agosta 90Bs ? What was the point of getting the TOT if we were only planning on building 3 subs ?

Yuan derivative that PN is going with is a bigger sub, more weapons (CMs likely), more range/ depth, more powerful AIP, overall a bigger package.

So essentially whatever we paid for the TOT went down the drain because it remains un-utilized ?

not really, we learned quite a few things from it such as construction of hull from HLES 80 steel, which comes in handy for future projects. Also, we have several naval projects like sonar, simulators and combat management system derived from A-90 tech transfer.

getting 6 subs by 2016 is very difficult. especially if reports regarding transfer of technology and some will be built at kaaarachi are true. more relaistic figure will be around 2025 we will get all of them
regarding AIP only last 2 of scorpion will have AIP not first four

also although pakistan has all three mesma system we are not sure whether hey have been installed on first two agosta subs? as there were some reports that AIP will be installed after 1st life upgrade. the thrid one had AIP from the start

all three AIPs are installed

what i mean was that the first two were not initially installed with AIP but presumably later refitted

True, first two didnt have them, third had it from the word go, remaining two were retrofitted.

the MESMA unit is a plug in unit which can be retrofitted during construction or while mainteance.

The French are not willing to sell us any more Agosta's.

As per the initial plan of 90Bs, it was planned that after the first 3, 90Bs are completed, another batch of 3 more 90Bs will be built in Karachi.

Given the fact that the latest kilo sub is +/- $200m, 6 subs from China shouldn't cost more than $1.5bn
