Pakistan Orders AgustaWestland AW139 Helicopters
- A +
Pakistan has signed a contract for an undisclosed number of AgustaWestland AW139 intermediate twin engine helicopters with Leonardo-Finmeccanica.

The signing was held in Islamabad yesterday in the presence of the H.E. Italian Ambassador Stefano Pontecorvo. The contract is part of a fleet renewal programme spread over several batches including a logistic support and training package.

The AW139s, deliveries of which are expected in 2017, will be used to perform search and rescue across the nation.

A total of 11AW139s are already in service in Pakistan, with 5 aircraft operated for Government relief and transportation duties.

The AW139 can perform a wide range of roles including government missions, EMS, SAR, executive/private and government transport, law enforcement, utility and offshore transport.

Off course they are costly but they are great helicopters and we need them also it indicates that we are going to buy lot of stuff from Italy. I can also smell some Frigates and Submarines also coming

No idea about that
dont you smell kick backs and corruptions ? need to check their cost and parameters of their selection

If we are going to buy them in large numbers which I can sense here, why not on ToT basis....after all the need for helis will keep growing future.

It is a possibility since this news comes all of a sudden...idk what procedures have been followed and how details are public. But it could be a part of larger deal where Pakistan is buying some other equipment too. Maybe some western origin subs etc. But I wish our planners think more on the lines of indigenisation and ToT.

No I don't specially under General Raheel. He honest and strict man. That is why we even rejected Chinese Tank. Details would be revealed soon.
what you mean you rejected ? You deal is Still under way ... Mean while this company most corrupted to the core ..Even acknowledged by Italians themselves

defence deals are main source of corruption .

10$M man that's a bit expensive for us imo

Does pakistan have tender process for procurement or is it direct govt2govt contract?

Base price alone -10 mill

add ons + Service + spares etc

If deal is for 10 it could be around 150 Millions wonder why numbers not disclosed , Or may be Chinese paid for technology

VT4 is rejected but we may test T-99 A2 Tank and that is totally different Tank. But most likely OPLOT M will be tested again and may get selected.
Chinese will make sure to will buy t99 .
