A Stanis will behave or go to bed without supper, the tabs are isolated with country on the verge of falling apart.
This is why we need to finish this fence ASAP and build up enough forts, so that the border is a fait accompli should the relationship sour. Hopefully these disputes can keep getting resolved with talking but that may not hold up in every situation, and the army needs to retain the means of persuasion without creating new blood feuds with tribes across the border, if it can be avoided.
Therefore, I also hope the army get some non-lethal directed energy systems; Active denial system aka heat ray or the Long range Acoustic hailing Device; LRAD (just in case some low level people threaten the border fence or forts, no need to shed blood if it can be avoided)
the terrain is so rugged in places that skirmishes could occur by accident in the future if the border is lot clearly marked.
The 82nd airborne crossed into Pakistan this way near FOB Salerno (near Khost), not sure of the year this incident takes place.
Pakistan should try to find a way to make ever third or fourth border post into a major fort and make it a fortified town with services for people on both sides of the border; medical care, free trade market, etc. so the Afghans see the long term benefit of the border, and learn to live with it, similar to Hadrian’s wall or the forts on the Rhine River by the Romans. Also a good way to provide humanitarian aid services without going into Afghanistan, and allow families to cross back and forth in an orderly manner that still allows the Pakistani government to know who is coming and going as much as possible.
p.a. The Nuruistanis/Kunari people have always been one of the most independent peoples in the border regions. Its not surprising issues would start there. Also remember the average age of the population in Afghanistan is 18, so a lot of the younger fighters have no perspective of a time without fighting. The sooner the Afghan economy picks up , and they can go back to the timber trade, the sooner they can stop causing a fuss along the border, hopefully.
