Pakhtunkhwa or ‘Bengali Model’, says Bilour

There is a huge difference. Punjabi is not really an ethnic group, that ethnic name was given to us. Panj-ab means "land of five rivers" in Farsi, and the Persians called us Punjabis (the inhabitants of Punjab).

The main ethnic groups in Punjab are Gujjar, Jatt, Malik, Syyed, Qureshi, Rajput, Rai, Gilani, Sheikh etc...

Pakhtun is an ethnic group and naming a territory after an ethnic group is not good for the country. Although the name "NWFP" needs to be changed.

I am amazed that no one objected to this flawed statement.. and people are giving thumbs up to this post.. Gujjar, Jatt, Malik, Syyed, Qureshi are NOT ethnicities.. but they are clans.. they all speak Punjabi and belong to Punjabi ethnic group..

Pakhtun is an ethnic group.. Durrani, YusufZai, Ghizlai etc are clans of Pakhtuns.

Bilour should appologise for this stupid statement , however their demand to rename their province is fair and its another debate.

We call Punjabis an ethnic group but before our area became part of the Persian empire there was no such thing as Punjabis. This name is given to us by the Persians. Even look at the word "Panj-ab" a Farsi word. The name Punjabis was given to us by Persians, we didnt chose it.

A Syyed living in Punjab is not the same as a Jatt living in Punjab but today we call them both Punjabis because they live in Punjab.

sorry for asking questin after question, but what is population of hazaras and what language they speak in NWFP? in balouchistan they speak farsi, but not sure about nwfp.

Hazara is not a cast here about what we are talking about……here, Hazara is an administrative division includes Haripur, Abbottabad and Mansehra and the majority people living in Hazara are also Pathans, but they speak Hindko….”Hazar” means 1000…….as once there were 1000 (Hazar) villages from which, with the passage of time, the name Hazara evolves.

NWFP includes all i guess

No, excluding Gilgit-Baltistan and FATA.

68% of people in the province speak Pashto. Other languages spoken are Hindko(18%), Seraiki(8%), Urdu & Punjabi(2%).so i gues gives an estimate idea of ethinic groups

In fact, the language split-up in the province is totally different from the ethnic dispersion of the population…….like pushto speaking and hindko speaking pathans…..both are pathans, but speaks different languages and this also is the root cause of the conflict and this whole “name changing” practice.

One should never forget the ideological alliance of ANP and where it originated from. But honestly this Bilour one is nothing but a stupid ***, he is a proud owner of a broken down body soon first it was his vocal chords now his pea brain.

Don't know if it would be appropriate for me to comment on Pakistan Internal Matter, but being a student of politics i couldn't resist temptation to express my opinion. The Statement of R'Way Minister is a kind of bargaining chip, his views and opinion about Bengali Model does not appeal to Most of People from NWFP. So People should not lose sleep over his statement. But I would say name NWFP just represents a geographical entity ,it's not a proper name of a culturally and historically rich province. So some name should be given based on Consensus of All major Political stakeholders at regional and national Level.

This guy is just venting out his anger on the Punjabi and Sindhi dominated government and I honestly can't blame him. Pakhtunkhwa is being targeted ruthlessly by drone attacks thus causing more resentment in the area from locals towards the government and Americans, making it a breeding ground for Talibs. The refusal of IDPs from Northern Area like Swat into Punjabi areas has caused a lot of anger in that region. These are just a short list of the grievances that citizens of Pakhtunkwa citizens feel.

Before you say their over-reacting and being childish, they are not alone in feeling alienated from the motherland, speak to people in Kashmir and Baluchistan, their views will be echoed once again. All are heavily under represented in this country and their areas are pretty much desolate when compared to hubs like Lahore (Punjab), Rawalpindi (Punjab) and Islamabad (Punjab) and Karachi (Sindh). Something needs to be done about this and fast because for over sixty years those people have remained quiet and I doubt they will stay like that for another sixty years.

May Allah be with our country; I really hope the youth would stop being idle, as they are the ones who can make a drastic change in our country as seen with the Iranian revolution. Its time we as Pakistanis support our Pashtun brothers whom are being made homeless, constantly being bombed by drones and the army as well as being harassed on a daily basis in their own country. We as Pakistani should support them just like they have supported us with their blood in the past. No-one will or can break our country but ourselves and its time Pakistanis got past their ethnicity and united as a group to get rid of this puppet regime which is seriously plaguing our country.
