Pakhtunkhwa or ‘Bengali Model’, says Bilour

pukhtuns are majority if thats what you curios to know

That is not my point. I know that the pakhtuns are more than the others. But what is the percentage of every ethnic group in that province. Because previousely N.Sharif and others had suggested the combined name of Pakhtunkhwa-Hazara to the province.

not sure but here is a quote from an article

68% of people in the province speak Pashto. Other languages spoken are Hindko(18%), Seraiki(8%), Urdu & Punjabi(2%).

so i gues gives an estimate idea of ethinic groups.

This is just another cheap trick by the ANP. Everyone knows that their popularity has dwindled in Sarhad and this is just another one of their tricks to re-gain some support.

Pakhtunkhwa-Hazara was proposed by Nawaz Sharif but that means the ANP would have to recognize Hazara as a legitimate part of N.W.F.P., which they cannot allow.

It is common knowledge that some Pakhtuns have always looked down upon Hazar-e-wals and consider them a part of Punjab. Recognizing them in this way would be detrimental to their mis-guided political efforts.

He wants bengali model right..........put him behind bars like Mujeeb (though i consider him partially guilty and consider the politicans of West Pakistan equally or more responsible)

and don't repeat the same mistake by releasing there after.......... Life sentance for traitors...... 100 lashes before breakfast, lunch and dinner.

If Nawaz can be accused of 'stupid statements' (which indeed he is guilty of) then this one by Bilour takes the cake.

'Stupidity begets stupidity' apparently.

Cheap pressure tactics by the ANP to get what they want.

but surely a minister speaking of treason is something to worry about ?
Id rather this whol issue be settled as quickly as possible, pashtuns have a right to decide the name of their province and it should be given to them. I dont think its an issue as most parties agree on this, however we need to pull ourselves together. We must find some way to get rid of this ethnic division among us

God forbid that happens.

What benefit would the name change bring to the Province?

I have a feeling that the ANP has some bigger ulterior motives behind it.

ANP smells of hatred for Pak on the lines of ethnicism comes from ANP.

It should be resolved quickly, but in today's world the rapid dissemination of information through the media and others means has meant that even minority groups have a significant voice.

Think for example if this was Punjab province that was to be named/renamed, do you think, given the calls for a separate Seraiki province and the significant minority of Seraiki speakers in Southern Punjab, that there would not be opposition to renaming it 'Punjab' vs 'Punjab-Seraikh'?

As it is, I suspect that in the coming years demands for the creation of more administrative units within the Pakistani Federation is only going to grow, especially if the performance of the provincial governments continues to remain abysmal, despite the passage of the current constitutional reforms and NFC award that grant considerable economic and administrative autonomy to the provinces.'

But yes, I do think that the minister should be condemned for his anti-Pakistan comments. Whatever the name of the province, it does not change the identity of its inhabitants. The Pakhtun were Pakhtun when it was part of empires of the past, they were Pakhtun when it was called NWFP, and they will remain Pakhtun whether it is called NWFP or Pakhtunkhwa.

It is a silly thing to start clamoring for doom over, when there are far more urgent issues that need to be resolved, like consistent electricity, functioning infrastructure and easy availability of basic supplies etc.

Yes thats true and that is a big challenge for Pakistan, the biggest danger Pakistan faces to me isn't from India rather it is from our Afghan/Iran border. The pashtun sentiments on the other side of the border are very worrysome. I spent the last month on an Afghan pashtun forum, even though the over-whelming majority loves Pakistani people yet they want to create an indepent pashtunistan. Now i know the pashtuns in Pakistans and their majority is against any such step however, this is an issue. The first thing that needs to be done is to recognize the fact that these areas have been ignored by the centre, after 60 years these areas have seen little economic or social development, though they may be more advanced than they're afghan counterparts but still NWFP along with Balochistan has been majorly ignored. There is resentment among masses towards the centre and punjab in general and that has to be overcome, the fact that over-whelming majority of pashtuns in Afghanistan wants to see pakistan divided is another fact that needs to be recognized and needs to be dealt with. All in all, this entire TTP war has provided us with an oppurtunity, the road is very bleak but if we are able to take NWFP people into confidence now we can eliminate the resentment and the segregation that pashtuns in tribal areas feel towards punjabis. The best way to do this is to divert as many resources as possible to the development of these areas, give them bigger representation in the centre and above all develop strong institutions that will be able to bridge the gap between Islamabad and these areas. In my opinion this is a bigger threat to Pakistan than India.

Miss-leading name change means first step to give right to Afghan Pakhtuns to claim the land.

He said the Pakhtuns have never objected to the province of Punjabis being named the Punjab or the province of Sindhis being named as Sindh. ìThen why would any other province have any issues over renaming the province of the Pakhtuns after them?

There is a huge difference. Punjabi is not really an ethnic group, that ethnic name was given to us. Panj-ab means "land of five rivers" in Farsi, and the Persians called us Punjabis (the inhabitants of Punjab).

The main ethnic groups in Punjab are Gujjar, Jatt, Malik, Syyed, Qureshi, Rajput, Rai, Gilani, Sheikh etc...

Pakhtun is an ethnic group and naming a territory after an ethnic group is not good for the country. Although the name "NWFP" needs to be changed.

Thanks, does this statistics include FATA or that one is separate?

ANP should come forward with some uncontroversial name rather than blackmailing but this is their history that they can't talk sensibly.

NWFP includes all i guess

sorry for asking questin after question, but what is population of hazaras and what language they speak in NWFP? in balouchistan they speak farsi, but not sure about nwfp.
