Pakistan all set to test cruise missile

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan is all set to test-fire “Babur” cruise missile with its improved version in a day or two after completion of its successful laboratory tests, The Nation has learnt here.

“All arrangements have been made to test-fire the cruise missile on Monday. It will have capability to hit pinpointed targets from surface, warship or submarines,” the sources maintained.

The “Babur” missile will have a range of nearly 300 miles to hit the target either from a fixed location or the submarines.

“The laboratory tests showed cent per cent accuracy in the latest technology of the cruise missile,” the sources said.

“The Babur missile is prepared mainly for the submarines but it can also be fired from the fighter jets and have capability to chase the target in case of movement,” they disclosed.

In response to a question, the sources revealed that the cruise missile would be undetectable from the radar system before or after its launching to hit the target. “This is the latest technology in the world.”

Pakistan has already fired the first version of the “Babur” but its improvement is continuing as Islamabad continues to improve its defence capabilities.

Well now its the fact that we know that Agosta-90Bs probably do have a capability to launch these cruise missiles. Pakistan is also looking for another submarine which can possibily fire this cruise missile.

That is the part which I found most interesting! It means they have acquired the 'cold launch' capability for the missile. That is certainly a breakthrough if it is indeed the case.

hopefully from vls, to allow for larger ones, with longer ranges, and vls would allow many to be fired, like the in the amur 950

Just heard that the fighter versions will have a 1000km range. Can someone conform this ?

It's gonna be flying at tree tops height. Radars won't be able to detect it. That's why it's stealthy.

Pak tests Babar cruise missile

Pakistan on Tueaday test-fired its 500 km range Babar cruise missile, which is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.

Pakistani officials claimed the missile can carry any type of warhead.

The missile was first tested in August 2005. Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf and senior officials watched the test-firing.

Pakistan test-fires cruise missile

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) -- Pakistan on Tuesday successfully test-fired a cruise missile that can carry a nuclear warhead and hit targets within a 310-mile range (500 kilometers), the army said.

Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf witnessed the firing, which took place at an undisclosed location inside Pakistan and was the second test of the Hatf VII cruise missile, also known as the Babur, an army statement said.

The initial test was conducted last August on Musharraf's 62nd birthday.

"All phases of the planned trajectory were extremely successful and the missile impacted with pinpoint accuracy," the statement said.

Pakistan's nuclear-armed neighbor India was not given prior notice of the test as it did not fall under an accord that covers notification of ballistic missile tests, a senior security official said.

The Babur cruise missile can be fired from various platforms, including ground positions, surface ships and submarines, the army said.

The statement described it as a "low-flying, terrain-hugging missile with high maneuverability, pinpoint accuracy and radar avoidance features."

Musharraf was quoted as saying the firing demonstrated Pakistani proficiency in weapons production and that his government will "continue to provide all support to their endeavors in fortifying national defense."

Pakistan also possesses nuclear weapons and has fought three wars against India since the 1947 partition that led to this Islamic state's creation. But both countries have been holding peace overtures since 2004.

I belive this one can be fired from subs . But this is just a upgraded version of babur capabale of being fired from other platforms.

Thanx.....A Kind of tricky question was that. Do you know what platform did they use during its test?

Ground/Land launched both the tests so far. This is because the missile has yet to be integrated onto subs and surface combatants before testing can begin using those platforms.

The launch was televised and I saw it Prime TV here in Amsterdam.
Babur was desplayed on a mobile launch platform, launched vertically and then it set course to what seemd to ba an airborne drown wich it hit sucessfully.
