Pak military ‘obsessed’ with India: Cable

NEW DELHI (Agencies) - Pakistani officials are ‘hypnotically obsessed’ with India’s military, officials in New Delhi told US officials in comments made public in a leaked US diplomatic cable released Friday by Wikileaks, reports IBN Live.
The cable, released by the British newspaper The Guardian, says Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao told US Sen John Kerry earlier this year that Indo-Pakistani peace talks could not move ahead until Islamabad did more to dismantle the Pakistan-based terrorist infrastructure that New Delhi says supports anti-Indian militants.
In a February 15 meeting with Senator Kerry, Rao underlined that Indo-Pakistani talks slated for February 25 enjoyed high-level support and were still on track. On Afghanistan, the Foreign Secretary cited Indian interests and criticised Pakistani attempts to exclude New Delhi from regional discussions. Rao said the GOI was ‘refining’ its legislation on civil nuclear liability and was committed to implementing the Civil Nuclear Cooperation Agreement.
Kerry noted that there was a long history of distrust to overcome.
Rao said such talks “can’t just be switched on” and India needed “a climate of confidence” in order to proceed to a resumption of the full dialogue. She speculated that Pakistani COAS General Kayani was likely to tell the Senator that India’s military doctrine continued to pose a threat to Pakistan and observed that the Pakistani military was “hypnotically obsessed” with India’s military posture.

Your statement suggests rather you are obsessed with Pakistan as you extracted a point which is not even in the mentioned 'leak'. So Indiotic of you!

By the way do you even understand meaning of obsession? I am obsessed with a thought of fcuking a girl.. does that sound to you I am "afraid" of her???

.
I think any country will be "obsessed" about its own security when it has a potentially hostile neighbour with whom it has fought several wars, especially if that neighbour happens to be several times larger.

not true. Indians love peace;but if our neighbors think that we are weak and they invade us we will defeat them. :pop:

The obsession has little to do with security. Every Pakistani leader has known for over a generation that India has no design to conquer Pakistan. It has to do with some Pakistani's wish to obtain glory through conquest mixed in with their own need to reap the rewards of power without domestic criticism.

How do we know that "security" is not the case? Because Pakistani politicians and Army officers talk of terrorists from Afghanistan threatening the nation, but none talk of invading Afghanistan to put an end to it. Much safer, and far more rewarding materially and politically, to concentrate on attacking a nation intent on peace (so you are in the driving seat of any aggressive activities) rather than terrorists who would respond by blowing up your neighborhood and slitting your throat.

The obsession has everything to do with security, when your hostile neighbour fields a military machine 5 times your size and parked right near your border than you have every reason to be afraid. We are aware that India has no intentions of conquering Pakistan but their are territories inside Pakistan or India that are disputed. We know that India does not want to resolve these matters peacefully, that is why we need a powerful military to protect our interests. India is not afraid to use force in the region, you dont believe me ask the poor Bengalis who are being slaughtered by the BSF. Its just fantasies that are floated by people who believe that we Pakistanis want conquest in India, we are happy with the status quo the way it is, the only place where we draw exception is justice for the Kashmiris.

How do we know that "security" is not the case? If NATO with all its military and economic might cannot end the terrorist threat in Afghanistan, how possibly can you expect Pakistan whom has a fraction of these resources to fair any better. We all are quite aware of how hostile India has always been to Pakistan, as they say actions speak louder than words and Indian actions against Pakistan speak volumes of their intent.

India does not want to solve a 63 year old dispute even though 3 wars have been fought over it. They have a military with twice the resources, and they expect Pakistan to ignore it? wow. You expect them to sit around and play cards all day?

The Bolded part is the whole point sir.We dont claim any part of territory under Pakistani control or else we would have taken it by now.
It is Pakistan that claims Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir and is not able to do a thing militarily so sends proxies across to create unrest. We are defending our borders and at times that can demand offence too.

Cheers

You mean disputed state of Jammu and Kashmir, which your country has forcefully occupied. Your post would make sense if we were trying to claim Khalistan, Nagaland or any of the other insurgency ridden areas in india because those are not disputed.

Listen Najam Sethi interview. He is wise man, prominent Pakistani journalist.

He says that Pakistan military used the Hindu/India fear to gain political power. Jinnah did not want obsession with India. But Military wanted to become dominant so they create the hatred for India so that they justify their rule.

Pakistan military created "National Security State". They said to Pakistanis - if we are not there to protect you, then Indians/Hindus will destroy us. So you need us to rule the country and keep it strong.

In reality, there was no threat from India. In 1965, Pakistan started the war by attacking Kashmir, but India opened second front on International Border. Pakistan lost the war but still claims that it won the war.
