Pak Army troops foil cross border attack on Lower Dir post, six militants killed

Security forces forced the assailants to retreat to their hideouts in Afghanistan.

PESHAWAR (Web Desk) - Pakistani troops foiled a terrorist attack on a military check post near Lower Dir from the Afghan side killing six militants, Dunya News reported on Wednesday.

According to a military official, between 70 to 80 terrorists were involved in the cross-border attack on Pakistan military post between Tripaman and Inkal Sar areas last night. At least seven terrorists were killed and 9 injured as the attack was successfully repulsed by the Pakistan military.

Nine terrorists were also wounded in the clash while others managed to flee from the scene.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has lodged a strong protest with Afghanistan over the incident.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Afghan Charge d’ Affaires was called to the Foreign Office and a strong protest was lodged. The Afghan authorities were, once again, urged to take effective steps to stop the use of Afghan territory for repeated cross-border fire and physical attacks by terrorists.

It was emphasized again that at a time when Pakistan is undertaking a monumental effort against terrorists and their hideouts through the launch of Operation Zarb-e-Azb, all possible cooperation is extended by the Afghan side and measures taken by them to eliminate terrorist sanctuaries on Afghan territory.

The ministry further stated that Pakistan would also be taking up this matter with the Afghan Government at a higher level in the broader context of enhancing security along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Who's responsible for maintaining writ in that province and make sure that terrorists dont cross the border and attack the Pakistani forces? The Govt claiming to rule Afghanistan- the Afghan Govt!

If they cant take care of it, they need just tell us, the F16's will be at a call away. Until then, they should take the protest seriously. Maybe, after sometime, we wont have another option except to operate it ourselves.

Time for talking is running out. Send the jets to Kunar and Nooristan for early morning bombing raids. For every cross border attack and terrorist incident drop 10 sorties in Afghanistan.

Sartaj Aziz has said on numerous times that Pak follow non-interventionist policy so that means PA will not cross over into Afghanistan. The army I believe doesn't not have system in place which allows troops at theater level to call in air strikes?

I know the army protocol is being amended but Pakistan needs to start playing hardball politics. It has shown the world it can destroy terror bases in their country and chase/kill all terrorists. Border is also now secured so their end of the bargain has been fulfilled. Afghanistan is clearly not delivering.

"Having talks" is being too soft, they have the leverage so can start escalating, to make a public threat to Afghanistan that if by December 2014 cross border attacks are not prevented then PA will be obliged to invade Kunar and Nooristan to destroy TTP bases themselves. Its as simple as that.
