i wish we use them too but not like this way . load a damn gun and send it rain the bullets on any moving enemy and land cover it and fly back . i can see how iraqis and afghans are being melting because they have no air cover . FYI iraqis and afghans have also big air forces on time but all went down . now flying super tocano . i am scared to see bad times .

In a flight formation, that would be the case but this was a rescue operation and Cobras are not good for precision kill situations which is why the Bell and Fennecs were flying alone.

Sir, believe me, I'm not one of those who blindly follows the herd, and this is why plenty of times I have ruffled feathers I shouldn't have.

What you are saying is absolutely correct, but for some reason this did not happen. Maybe they assumed that the LZ was out of harms way? An error in judgement, which I'm sure wasn't due to a fundamental flaw, but a temporary lapse in judgement, due to the immense pressure of such an incident?

People were going nuts when we bought the Mi-35's, now Sikorsky is selling Battle Hawks to Mexico. Which is smaller in size, and the ability to take hits, is less as well compared to the Mi35.

It's ability to provide armed backup, would have been no doubt, invaluable in a situation like this.

Guys it was not an "Armored" heli so 7.62 would be enough if aimed at the right point to bring it down. Casevac op could have been better planned and if it was a hot zone then armed escort could have been used or atleast the general landing zone should have been secured before a light utility helo was brought in.

IMHO SOP's are still being refined and each such engagement is honing our skills to restrict, respond, wrap-up such ops with minimum damage or loss of life.

It is an immense exercise , day in day out, to secure military installations. That is where the insurgents have an advantage. Not only in Pakistan but all the insurgencies around the world.

I hope our PA is not covering these things up. The people deserve honest and credible information. I acknowledge that the army is perhaps the one and only less corrupt force than other institutions. But we must acknowledge that any person from any teir of society is corruptable.

We need to take serious action against the Taliban. So severe that it leaves their supporters trembling. Attacks by the Taliban should be stopped before they occur instead of false acknowledgements of victory after the Talib rats kill 10, 20 people.

Exactly, we lost many lives. But if someone destroy your helicopter with ak47 rifle then it is physiological loss and shame.

Sir, I understand your concern; evacuation helis are vulnerable to such fire. The concern sholud also be that; was that heli was equipped with any manned machine gun for cover fire during evacuation? Which in this case seems doubtful.

We don't WANT embargo prone hardware.

My point was arm chair generals & TTA's couldn't see the utility of us buying Mi-35's when the order was placed. Now Mexico is buying a similar capability, why? Because Attack Helos and Utility Helos are two different things. But the Mi-35 and UH-60 Battle Hawk combine these capabilities.
