I want to comment on this from purely secular/economic POV(not some religious fascinations), economic seamlessness on border(mild sort of economic unification) might not be a bad idea if both societies start moving toward liberal/progressive ones; the reason is that if we consider purely in terms of civilization than Afghanistan dosnt have a bread basket to support a sedate civilization, there were always migrations/invasions toward fertile plains east of Indus. We can make it sort of legalize to channelize it ; share in bread basket etc secondly Afghanistan is also landlocked but resource rich country Pakistan can be its corridor to world etc similarly Pakistan will also get benefits but the point is that any "unification"(unification is probably too strong a word) should be such that it result in fast socioeconomic uplift of people(standard of living) of both countries not for fulfillment of some religious fascinations.

I strong feeling that is coming into my mind is: When we faced american attack together, when we are together the main target of a common enemy, with almost same values and same religion, with more than half million Afghans already living in Pakistan, why cant we live together!!!!!!!
