Most of us here have been PAF enthusiasts for many decades, witnessing some very frustrating times and boredoms when PAF went through embargoes and lack of funds . Being the well wishers of PAF and its pilots we do cherish the organisation to be equipped with the latest state of the art fighters very soon, and hence we brainstorm on a daily basis with almost similar threads .
Keeping the Western options off the table for now, lets explore some economical and viable options that can give PAF the air superiority and powerful punch we all hope for.

J10C
This is currently the number one contender among the enthusiasts who want a strings free, embargo free and financial trouble free fighter.

Although J10c is still in its nascent years it has a long way to go, but the daily strides in its development suggests it has a huge potential for the future to come.A futuristic concept below...

JF17 Thunder Block2,3,4
A home made fighter is always a matter of pride for a nation and JF17 is the one that currently falls into this category. Thanks to the Chinese for their support the JF17 Thunder programme is making great progress in all dimensions. Within few years it will be the back bone of the PAF with newer blocks contributing to play in major roles.

Mirage upgrades
These reliable potent machines have been the main stay of PAF for many decades. The Mirages with their rigid airframes provide a faster and lethal BOMB TRUCK for PAF. Talks for upgrading them is not a bad idea. Ideally an upgrade to the CHEETAH standard with transfer of technology(from South Africa)will be the best option.

Project AZM
Every major airforce is either inducting a stealth fighter or is in a process to develop them. Being a major player we are not oblivious to the changing dynamics of modern times.Hopefully within a decade we will come out with a prototype that will be at par with the latest technologies. Again a futuristic concept below..

J16
Although an outside contender J16 is a very potent machine. Will love to see these beauties in our inventory as well.

Conclusion
The majority of the experts and enthusiasts hold a view that our fighter acquisitions and upgrades should be from home grown,Chinese,Turkish and other friendly sources. Which to some extent is not a bad idea as it is not prone to sanctions and financial issues. But for some of us the love for the F16s and other Western platforms is not going to go away soon either.:pakistan::pakistan::pakistan:

Why not j-20 and j31

imagine a 2 squadrons of j-20 and 1 or 2 squadrons of j-31

based out of Balochistan theses bad boys would be the strike element against s-500 first and then Indian airbases and other notary targets. Would actually cost as much as a 4 squadron of f-16 block 60

lol heard somewhere on this forum that Pakistani pilots were training on these aircrafts in China

PAF need an advance 4.5/ 5.0 generation fighter immediately to counter threat posed to us from Indian Rafale fighters as well as S-400 SAMs . Best options in this category will be Russian Su-35 or their Chinese version J-11/15/16 Flankers . To get these we need to negotiate with Russia and ask friendly loan from China to finance it . If this fails then second best option is try to convince Chinese to give us at least 2 squadrons of J-20s as this can counter the current Indian threats .

At the same time PAF may continue with current lot of F-16s but should not try to get any more as they will come with too much conditions and risk . PAF should continue to develop and induct JF-17 Block 3 which may be similar to J-10s although J-10C may have slight edge in aerodynamics but since PAF is already way ahead in JF-17 development so Block 3 is more economical option in comparison to J-10s.

For future PAF need to evaluate one of the two options ......Fifth generation Chinese J-31 vs. home made Project AZM . J-31 has 2 advantages over Project AZM . First is that J-31 is already in development stage where as Project AZM will take at least 8 years to materialize. Also in order to make it feasible and within acceptable cost per unit the Project AZM should be built and sold in enough numbers - around 200 plus and PAF should be ready to take all of this quantity and should not depend on export orders . With J-31 we can order as per requirement only as Chinese are also going to built them in enough numbers for their own Air Force so its cost per unit will be reasonable .

One good option for PAF can be to go for joint production of J-31 with Chinese by making PAF items within Pakistan along with modification suited to Pakistan's needs . This can give PAF experience in making a 5th Generation plane and also save time and cost as compared to going all alone in Project AZM.

Lets hope PAF decision makers are working thoroughly and selflessly on these options and decide on the best !!!!

Because we're working on Project Azm. You don't want every type or plane in your inventory.

Personally, I would like to see specialized delta wing variants of JF-17 replace Mirages.

And J-10Cs replace F-16As and Bs (analog interfaced).

With Azm jets, and upgraded F-16s 52+ blocks

Probably most important of all, I hope to see an Electronic Warfare and Reconnaissance squadron. It's crucial.

Question? Why not get a twin engine heavy strike and aerial superiority, 5th generation platform. I know our experience with f-6 and a-5 was not good because of the dual engine aircraft Serviceability, but 4 squadrons would be enough to pack a punch and defend our territory. These would cost the same amount as a f-16 block 60 squadron or two jf-17 block 3 squadrons and we can get this in 2 years

Only option we have for twin engine deep strike jet is JH-7A, lot of poster talking about J-16 but we can't get it because its Design is Russian based (Su-30 MKK/MKK2)

Please brother explain it further you mean f15e class or su34 like deep strike jet western countries are reluctant to sell any there top jets to Pakistan and Pakistan also don't have enough $$$ to purchase these expensive toys and forget about su34

J-20 is not available from China, its export banned by govt of China just like F-22 of USA, J-31 is still in its developmental phases, its performance is not satisfied by PLAAF/PLAAN, they are working on next version of J-31 for PLAAN called J-35 after J-31-V1/J-31V2
