PAF to retire the F-7 Fleet

The Egyptian Air Force are overall happy with their latest MiG-29s,F-16 A/B/C/D, Mirage 2000s and Rafales. JF-17B is of greater interest to them.

Hoping for SOM on PAF F-16s and fully operational CM-400AKG on JF-17s in addition to a Maverick-type weapon.

Shooter sqn had AC's from ex 19 sqn as those AC's were merged with 18 sqn If I am not wrong Shooter's are combo of both P and PG's

So, it is operating both P & PG.

P is on the way out, and PG can't be used as LIFT for long - which may be the reason PAF prefers to call 'Shooter squadron' a temporary unit.

27th is confirmed and 25th , 7th as well
27th sqn will remain mirage user until&unless we get a new platform , hey are very capable machines

There is a report (link) which mentions PAF wants to buy Egyptian Mirage 5 Horus. I see most members believe those will be used for spares, but why the upgraded Horus version?

Well. It's bettee to convert then in UAVs if possible......

Fighter interceptor squadrons cannot be converted to UAV/UCAV

PGs have more life then Ps as they are different aircraft.

Yes, the F-7PG is a better interceptor than JF-17 Block 1/2 and no the Mirage 3 is NOT overall better than JF-17, but it is better in its specialist strike role.

The only advantage the F-7PG enjoys is the speed, else it doesn't have the same BVR , Radar or other electronics capability as the JF-17.

If the PG is a better interceptor then the JF17, the thunder should have never been inducted, the whole purpose of the thunder was to replace the mirages and F7s if the thunder is incapable of doing this then its a serious design flaw imho. It's like we inducted a fighter to.give us basic BVR platform nothing more. If you build a fighter jet and that jet lacks the capability of a fighter jet which flew over 50 years ago it.means it's a failure

The advantage of f7 speed is negated by thunder sensors and range ..so he is wrong..its all about money and capacity

As a point interceptor, the PG acts almost like a turbojet. It's front intake design resembles a supersonic missile. In effect, the pilot has a supersonic missile under control that can throw other missiles. Combine with a high climb rate, put it into camoflauged and IR protected pens along the border, and keep it ready for incoming threats. The Indian pilots won't know what hit them when a Mach 2.0 aircraft emerges from their bellies. This will be even more effective if active EW is used in parallel. This is a specialist facility that is not available with Thunder, and shouldn't be available either.

My dear, there was a reason the -PG was given leading edge slats.
If it gets picked up on enemy's radar before it detects it's bogey, the speed becomes of little consequence.
