NEW DELHI: Pakistan on Wednesday said the actual outcome of the meeting between Narendra Modi and Nawaz Sharif was much better than expected.

"Pak PM had a constructive bilateral meeting and also invited the Indian PM. Although the visit was for a ceremonial occasion, the outcome was better than we expected, Nawaz Sharif's national security and foreign affairs adviser Sartaj Aziz said on Wednesday at a press conference in Islamabad.

"The meeting was with a clear strategic vision and was not just a photo opportunity," Aziz said.

"The PMs agreed that it was a historic beginning for both the countries and felt the need to turn a new page in relations," he said.

On both sides there was sincerity, warmth and determination to move forward, Aziz said.

aziz said the issues of cross-border terrorism and Kashmir were discussed but not substantially during the bilateral meeting Tuesday in New Delhi.

During the meeting, Modi also sought that the 26/11 Mumbai attacks case be expedited, a demand which Aziz described as not a new one from India.

The leaders of the two neighbouring countries agreed that terrorism was an issue of mutual concern and that they needed to address all conflicts to end the distrust between the two sides, Aziz said.

He also added that Sharif did not meet the Hurriyat leadership as it was a ceremonial visit to India.

"The issue of terrorism came up; the Pakistan PM informed his counterpart that terrorism is of mutual concern. Pakistan has suffered enormously," Aziz said.

"People and the Pakistan govt were committed to fighting terrorism. Whenever Kashmir is discussed, their (Hurriyat leaders) views have to be taken along," he said.

I hope everythings gets better and better for both countries!! There's no point for fighting each other ..it's only beneficial for others but not for our countries. So Good luck for this start.

It was just a good photo opportunity. Nothing else will come of this
