Air Marshal (Retd) Dilawar Hussain was born in Quetta in 1940. He was commissioned as a fighter pilot in March, 1962. During 1965 War, he served in No 19 Squadron at PAF Base, Peshawar. Apart from inflicting heavy damage to Indian forces, his formation destroyed 14 aircraft on ground at Pathankot Airfield. For his outstanding bravery and devotion to duty in 1965 War, he was awarded with “Sitara-i-Jura’at”.

Khattak also led two important strike missions in April 1971, in East Pakistan, as the SS Group cleared Bhairab Bridge and Patuakhali.

Air Commodore Rizwanullah Khan, standing beside him in the photograph, died along with ACM Mushaf Ali Mir, when their Fokker crashed at Kohat, in February 2003.

Air commodore Muhammad Mahmood Alam was a Pakistani fighter pilot. He had shot down nine Indian air force planes in one single mission of air-to-air combat – a rare feat in air battle – five of them were downed in less than a minute. He was a recipient of the Pakistani military decoration, the Sitara-e-Jurrat (“The star of courage”) for his achievement during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 and establishing a world record of shooting down warplanes. He was born on July 6, 1935, in Calcutta, British India. He was popularly known as “M.M. Alam” and nicknamed little dragon.

Air Commodore Bill Latif (Nazir Latif) SJ and Bar (July 10, 1927 – June 30, 2011) was a one-star general officer in the Pakistan Air Force and a former director-general of the Operations and Plans at the Air Headquarters, Islamabad. Latif was one of the distinguished Christian pilots who participated and fought, for Pakistan side, in 1965 Indo-Pak War and the 1971 Winter War.

In 1971 he was base commander of the Mauripur Base Karachi.

His words to me “You are wasted in Pakistan, get educated abroad” .. how true those words were from the best the PAF had in those days.
