Next generation Cobra's also uses AM general subsystems as standart Cobra's. Those vehicles have been introduced in USA in AM General stands. If USA requires, Those vehicles will be produced by AM General under licence of Otokar..

Looks cool. What is the armament mounted on top? .50 cal or something heavier like the 30 mm on the BMP-2? How many combatants can it carry?

Well looking of how immense BIG it got and also the bigger wheels i would say it also has a New engine.

Looks optimized for urban/LIC warfare: 4 doors instead of 2, imrpoved vision, add on side armor, top shields with armored windows. I guess mine/IED protection also improved.

Perfect For SWAT and AT teams , i guess Pakistan should buy a handful for Zarrars to drive around in.

Deflective Armour ?

Cabatli, where was this taken? i see US flag and soldiers in the background?

New Cobra 2.5 evolves the breed

AM General and Otokar displayed the latest version of the Cobra 4x4 armoured personnel carrier at the Association of the United States Army symposium in Washington, DC.

The Cobra 2.5 has a number of enhancements on the baseline platform, including increased ballistic protection and a more powerful engine.

The Cobra has been manufactured in large quantities in Turkey for the domestic and export markets and uses automotive components from AM General's Expanded Capacity Vehicle (ECV) version of the HMMWV.

While the original vehicle has a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 6.3 tonnes, that of the Cobra 2.5 depends on the survivability package required by the customer, but according to AM General this can range from 6.35 tonnes to 11.34 tonnes with a maximum payload of up to 3 tonnes.

The base vehicle design features a single door in each side of the vehicle and one door in the rear, but the 2.5 variant will have two doors on each side and maintain the door at the rear. The doors are fitted with ballistically-protected windows and an assisted opening device due to the increased weight of the doors when fitted with the full armour package.

Otokar is responsible for the vehicle's hull and survivability package and has retained the traditional lower V-shaped hull all-welded steel armour, albeit to a higher level of ballistic protection.

The hull can accommodate various armour packages to meet specific mission requirements, including appliqué armour and a protection package against explosively formed projectiles (EFPs). The design also sees the wheels positioned outside of the main armour envelope, the wheel arches will blow away in the event of the vehicle running over a mine in order to maintain the integrity of the hull.

AM General is responsible for the automotive aspects of the Cobra 2.5, including the powerpack and driveline. The new vehicle features a 6.5-litre diesel engine coupled to an Allison fully automatic transmission with powered steering and a central tyre-inflation system.

The first example of the vehicle is regarded as a technology demonstrator and production models will be tailored to meet the specific requirements of the customer. The version shown at AUSA in October 2011 was fitted with a remote weapon station, but various weapon fits are available as are more specialised versions.

To date, all Cobra production has been undertaken in Turkey, but production of the 2.5 could be take place in the US if required.

i saw this vehicle's early vesion at IDEF expo in Istanbul

it looks good
