‘Getting Orions replacement now impossible’
Published: August 10, 2011
ISLAMABAD (Agencies) - Secretary for Defence Production Zahid Hamid told Special Committee of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that no proposal was under consideration to purchase alternative aircrafts in place of those which were destroyed in Mehran Base attack and it was almost impossible to acquire Orion planes in the prevailing tense ties between Pakistan and the US.
The Committee met here on Tuesday in Parliament House under Zahid Hamid to review audit objections pertaining to Ministry for Defence Production.
Officials of Ministry for Defence Production looked ignorant that Pakistan Ordnance Factory was either running in loss or profit.
When Committee members asked question from the officers of POF about its losses or profit but nobody among them could give reply. The officers told government provided only funds to POF and it manufactured defence-related equipment. This was not basically a business concern, they stated.
Meanwhile, during a meeting of the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), it was revealed that an influential personality was behind the registration of 375 Afghan nationals in Mohmand Agency as a local tribe.
The meeting of the PAC was held in the NA building on Tuesday, with Yasmin Rehman in the chair.
Noor Alam, a committee member, revealed that an influential personality, who had served in the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), was now working on registration of 375 Afghan nationals as a local tribe in Mohmand Agency.
Alam alleged that the former ISI official had been working for the RAW, India’s intelligence agency.

Replying to the revelations forwarded by the PAC member, Additional Chief Secretary Fazal Karim Khattak said the government was aware of that personality, who was working on the registration of Afghan nationals.

So they are ok with the ordinance board bleeding money without a thought about how to stem the flow and make it financially secure enough to generate and fund it's own projects!!!

And of course, the India bashing must happen in a meeting where nothing of significance has been discussed.

An excellent example of how bureaucrats think -- When an enterprise is not organized nor thought of on commercial lines, bureaucrats don't concern themselves with public profit or loss -- but of course if it was their PRIVATE profit or loss, then you can be sure they would be plenty concerned.

How dare anyone ask such a banal question where defence of the motherland is concerned? Oh the horror! :P
