That's surprising to hear I must say. Although I am not a Sheikh/Mullah I find that astonishing considering the teachings of Islam and the fact that organ donations are not mentioned specifically.

But all you basically need to know that it is "halal" is the following;

Surat Al-Mā'idah (The Table Spread) - سورة المائدة

5:32

Sahih International
Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land - it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. And our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs. Then indeed many of them, [even] after that, throughout the land, were transgressors.

Or at least that should be enough if you ask me.

Anyway I have not really looked into this field in terms of the Islamic theology behind it but I am pretty much certain that as long as the person is dead and it can safe a life/be beneficial for a living person it is halal. Regardless of fiqh.

Religion (or the misunderstanding of it) and ethnicity to a lesser extent is definitely an issue. In the UK it has long been a sensitive issue, Muslims have been very loath to come forward for donation. It is a cultural/psychological problem that is quite ironic - we the people who are taught above all that this body is simply a vessel, are the ones least willing to part with it - even when our soul is gone.

Hospitals urge Muslims to donate organs - BBC News

I must confess, I haven't had the nerve to sign up yet - not sure how I and my family feel about it.

1. Are you OK with donating your organs after death? if no, any particular reason for that?
No reason but I do not feel comfortable doing that. While I live I would part with a kidney and my liver if need be, but not when I die.

A living liver donor? That's bold. But it perplexes me at the same time as to why you are OK being a living organ donor but not a cadaver organ donor?

I have seen how they treat dead donors here sir, you see how they treat the living, imagine the dead.

Does it really matter after you are dead?--- You have the chance of serving humanity after death, Do your part, rest is not really your fault, If it does even happen that is!!..

It is not like that. I guess I know what is going on in Gufi's mind. Before getting myself signed up, I had to do a lot of convincing to myself and guess what, I still think about it. There are three things on my will (one copy always hangs around my neck as part of my ID), and organ donation is at the top and it is not going to be changed but... I hope I am doing the right thing. I couldn't convince my wife to be a donor for instance. That is why I am curious to know what others think about it.

I can see the point now.It is hard to trust Pakistani Healthcare system.
I heard SIUT is one of the more popular and less controversial institute.

I have been considering this for some time...... but havent worked on it to be honest...... I would like to donate it as many organ possible.....But i guess before deciding on it would like to know the opinion of my family too.......

You got the drift now. When I was in States ands now here, at-least I have peace of mind that my organs wont be sold in black market and end up giving new life to filthy rich.

I dono how to approach family about this...... Because for that the discussion has to start from my death....... Which they may not like to hear or discuss......
