Stiff Opposition to Tamil Nadu Muslim Preacher Jainul Abideen's Visit to Lanka -The New Indian Express

The Sri Lankan government is likely to deny entry to Moulvi P Jainul Abideen, better known as PJ, the founder and star speaker of the fundamentalist Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath (TNTJ), the New Indian Express news agency reported today.

A powerful section of Lankan Muslims who fear that PJ’s presence in the island will disturb intra-Muslim and inter-religious harmony are putting pressure on the government to cancel his visa. Earlier in 2005, PJ was deported on the same grounds.

PJ had been invited by the Sri Lanka Thawheed Jamaat (SLTJ) for the release of the Sinhala translation of the Koran on November 8.

The All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) issued a statement appealing to the SLTJ not to send PJ in the interest of peace and communal harmony. Some went to the court alleging that the Sinhala translation has grievous flaws and sought an injunction. Express learns that the Defence Secretary has advised the immigration authorities to review his case in the light of the objections.

PJ is not liked by sections of Lankan Muslims because he is campaigning against certain popular practices which he considers un-Islamic.

For example he is against worship of graves of saints (dargas). He expresses sharp views against Muslim sects like the Ahmadiyas and Shias.

His opponents allege that the Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath and Sri Lanka Thawheed Jamaat have accepted crores of rupees from Saudi Arabia for spreading Wahabi Islam. Others accuse him of criticising nearly a hundred Hadiths (sayings of Prophet Mohammad).

But the Sri Lanka Thawheed Jamaat General Secretary R Abdur Razik says that PJ, Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath and SLTJ are only promoting true Islam, unadulterated by non-Islamic influences.

Razik has challenged the All Ceylon Jamayyathul Ulama to an open debate on this. He asks why the ACJU has never protested against the arrival of non-Muslim preachers or preachers from various Muslim sects like the Ahmadiyas, Bohras and Shias. Why target only PJ? And there are also Muslims who say that as Lanka is a democracy with freedom of expression, PJ should not be barred.

It is not clear as to which view has majority support among Lankan Muslims, but what is undeniable is that some politically influential people are against PJ and his brand of Islam. (New India Express)

If Dalai Lama is not welcome then banning this guy shouldn't be a prob specially when majority of Muslims are against him.

@jamahir should be able to give you more insights to them

OMG...This guy is real bad news. I remember being acquainted with some of his followers on FB. Many used to have Osama on their profile pics. Mind you this was before IS. I am not on FB now, but from what I've seen they very well might support IS(although not explicitly). Their views were very regressive. Even this guy makes crass remarks during public speeches. I remember a video of him in which he accused actor Kamal Hassan of pimping his daughter (during the Vishwaroopam controversy). The staunchest opposition to him comes from Muslims who are followers of Barelvi schools in India.

this..
His opponents allege that the Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath and Sri Lanka Thawheed Jamaat have accepted crores of rupees from Saudi Arabia for spreading Wahabi Islam

...generally is the sort of misbelief that saudia provides the ideology to groups like "thowheed jamath" whereas saudia mostly provides only the money, and instead of the saudi wahabi ideology, these south asian jamaat groups spread the home-grown deobandi reactionary ideology... the deobandi indian corruption of islam goes back to the 1800's at least and the name refers to the "dar ul uloom deoband" mullah school in present uttar pradesh state in india that originally was funded by the british east india company... deobandi ideology is a corruption and the corruption being bringing brahminical hindu thought into islam.

all these "jamaat" groups are primarily missionary arms of the deoband mullah school but also they serve as terrorist production and recruitment centers for transnational terrorist groups... most "muslim" terrorist groups, whether the taliban, whether the ikhwaan ( "muslim" brotherhood ) in africa and syria, whether "hizb ut tahrir" in russia, china and central asia, whether jemah "islamiya" of south east asia, all these groups are either directly or semi-directly derived from deobandi ideology... in essence, deobandism is more brahminical hinduism than islam.

so i would accept people blaming india for most of the "muslim" terrorism in the world.

If Dalai Lama is not welcome then banning this guy shouldn't be a prob specially when majority of Muslims are against him.

indeed so.

and i wish that indian muslims would look at sri lankan muslims as good examples in this... most indian muslims have changed for the worse since 1989, and especially in the last 15 years, and not only the region but the world is getting affected by them.

This guy and TNTJ are sh!theads, they were the guys who were behind Vishwaroopam ban (atleast the visible face) and make very cheap speeches. I've seen people use glorify terrorists, and are even against other muslims sects.

segment of the speech that @Josef K was talking about:

the ideology of taliban certainly is.

the taliban are certainly not true muslims.
how so, what exactly is this "brahmin ideology" you speak of anyway, and what parallels do you see with the taliban's Islamic ideology ?

you say that about the Iranians and Sauds too, so who exactly is a "true muslim" then, ataturk, nasser, gaddafi and the al assads ?

is there any place on earth where they actually practice "true islam" as you know it to be ?

eh, never heard of him, or this Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath.

sad to see the saudi poison spread all over India.

He holds a radical fringe party in TN. Though he gives fiery speeches, I have seen his volunteers organizing free ambulances, blood supply and foods during disasters and floods. Much like aka JuD, minus the terrorism part and hate speech against other religions part.

He is fiercely against unholy Islamic practises and want Muslims to follow orthodox Islam. And yes, he is funded from Saudi Arabia.

what parts of his speeches make them "fiery" ?

He is fiercely against unholy Islamic practises and want Muslims to follow unorthodox Islam. And yes, he is funded from Saudi Arabia.
you meant orthodox, not unorthodox, right ?

he should be kicked out of an airplane 38,000 feet above peshawar, without a parachute.
