I have not gone through the thread. But here is my reason for supporting IK.
1. Personally he is not corrupt. Yes politicians, bureaucracy, members of his team might be corrupt. But they can not do corruption openly now. There is no one in PM house distributing contracts with pre determined commissions.
2. He is at leas trying to address Pakistan's biggest and decades old problem of debt. He at least ahs the brains to think about it, try to work on it. It might not be working very well yet. But remember we are also going through covid. He brought USD on its actual rate which is very good step. Now the imports are expensive and local production is cheaper. Before due to cheaper dollars, even Bata sandals were being made in China and just retailed here. 0 local production. Our local industry got killed due to difficult taxes, in his tenure foreign investment is flourishing. Just observe the number of new car brands coming to Pakistan. Auto policy may have disturbed the used import car market (easy work/less money circulation) but local production will have much higher benefits in the long run.
3. External debt - here is a break down of Imran Khan government's foreign borrowing:
-Total loan taken = 46 Billion USD
-Debt payments made (Principal amount) = 27 Billion USD - 58.6% used to repay previous loans
-Debt payments made (Interest amount) = 6.5 Billion USD - 14.1% used to repay interest on previous loans
Total spending on debt servicing (Principal + Interest = 33.5 Billion USD - 72.7% overall spent on debt servicing of previous governments loans
-Additional money added to USD reserves of Pakistan to meet 3 month minimum expenses = 7.5 Billion USD - 16.3 %
(PMLN completely drained all accounts before handing over the government. They fudged numbers frequently, overstated figures. Pakistan now has a minimum of 3 months payments for fuel & services, we did not even have that before)
-Total debt used by this government = 5 Billion USD. - 10.8%, so out of all the ballooning external debt which Imran Khan is accused of. Only 10% is his own addition. Rest 90% of it is in repayments and fixing previous mess.
Not to forget we got some good covid handling and cash relief payments distributed to masses in this time too.
4. He has brains to talk about tree plantation, global warming, wild life preservation, promoting tourism in Pakistan.
5. Health insurances country wide is a great initiative. Which would have great impact on the poor and middle classes.
6. Strong foreign policy, Pakistan first. No buckling down. Raised awareness about insulting our Prophet (P.B.U.H.) in the name of freedom of speech. Highlighted Kashmir issue. Showed generosity by opening Kartarpur boarder. Gave peace and talks a chance. Offered India to settle disputes and engage in talks. He has a vision for the region. He is beyond petty politics. He is a nation builder.
7. Education reforms and single curriculum country wide is a great step. He is the only politician who talks about madrassa kids. He wants them to have conventional education too. He wants them to not become radicalised, should be able to have religious knowledge and yet be successful members of the society. No one talked about madrassa kids before as if they weren't one of us. Again, vision, understanding, not avoiding looking into problems. He is a leader who can face all issues.
8. A lot of work has been done to fix Pakistan's circular debt issue arising from electricity problems. We have renegotiated extremely poorly done contracts for IPP power generation plants. Transmission lines are being upgraded. Dams are being built which would address water shortage and help in power generation. Load shedding is gone already.
9. Several large projects in Karachi which needed it the most. PPP is destroying Sindh and Karachi. Now we can finally see somethings planned and initiated to improve Karachi's infrastructure. Drainage cleaning and upgradation, clean water supply, roads, train & busses etc. Much needed investment for such a large city.
