Operations to continue till Pakistan is terror free, says General Raheel

Pakistan should take care of the terrorist in its north west. Once the terrorists are exterminated, than it won't have any more internal threats. Pakistan can than focus on its threat from India. So it's possible that India would wish the internal terror threat continues.

It is. Problem we have in Pakistan the threats are hydraheaded. We got the Taliban on the Af-Pak border ( FATA) region which presently is being tackled. We then have MQM ( a party purportedly representing the Indian migrants who moved to Pakistan in 1947 mostly to Karachi) which has turned into nothing short of a Mafia/terrorist/Indian proxy which also is presently being squeezed. These are the acute problems.

However we also have the chronic issue. The white elephant in the room that nobody wants to accept. The pulsating, ever present weeds thats dot the Pakistani lanscape - The madaris. These are the gift of the Afghan jihad of the 1980s against Soviet Union. These produce is medieval mindset. Their products are slowly swamping the country in ignominy. From this swamp are recruited the suicide bombers and all the 'soldiers of madness'. Frankly I have no idea how to tackle this issue.

Maybe one solution could be your country ( if you are American ) lets the right minded Pakistani to USA for a year and then we use our nukes on ourselves. sort of radiation therapy on your own body to kill the cancer. Then after havinmg used our nukes we move our "good Pakistani's" back to Pakistan. sorted.

On another note I hope your a female and even more your that female in the DP. It is infintely better to have nice DP to look at then some horrid thing ....

We should find some way toget rid of the extremist. Maybe the Indian and Pakistani extremists can settle their differences in a war game with live bullets.

But India would not go for that as their current regime is compose of their own extremists.

We need a major operation in Balochistan. The CPEC needs to be secure. Gwadar might attract terrorist attacks in the future.

In Punjab too. Specially South Punjab.

I hope his successor is also like him. Its his last year. And this menace need more time to clear. We don't need another Qyani or Musharraf leading Pak Army again
Since he's doing pretty well for himself, he may get a two year extension. But the question is will Nawaz risk giving him an extension seeing how popular and powerful he has become?

Once bitten twice shy. Nawaz will probably not risk it, seeing that he has already been bitten earlier by his once favorite Musharraf!

Let the army roll on as per their normal rules of promotion and retirement. This is not some middle east family dynasty protection force or a dictatorship.
Democracy is hard won thing here in Pakistan. We should behave like one

Institutions are not "brick walls and cement", institutions are built by "Individuals", like PAF was built by early leaders like Asghar Khan and Nur Khan.

No. However what do you want? A institution or a man?
A man can never be bigger than a institution.
Men come and go. A institution lives on.

Institutions are legal concepts. They are organizations that are differantiated from individuels because their structure is regulated and formated to follow certain rules and regulations. Similar rather to companies but with differant mandate.

So the the defining feature of a institution is they follow due process as opposed to the individuel whose functioning can be arbitrary.

Totally agree with what you said, but if he is not extended the next appointment could be very political (ironically there were a lot of NS haters on the forum who abused and criticized NS for appointing Gen Raheel too) and or the next person may have a totally different mindset (like Kiyani) and the good work the RS has started against home grown terrorists hiding behind various political parties would again come back with full vigour. As much as I hate to bypass /violate rules, I would hate to see all his good work go to waste. I would fully support his extension for three more years to see a logical end to that war against corruption

Very good point you make. I guess on extenuating circumstances it could be done. After all that good for nothing Kayani got it. On the whole not following the standard operating rules is not healthy for organizations but as you point out Raheel is doing fantastic job where his predecessor failed miserably or prevaricated.

Also I notice Raheel is man of few words but lot of action. The guy is everywhere. On the frontline with the troops, in Karachi sorting out the mess there, in Pindi the next day. That is what we needed. Real leadership. He is breath of fresh air in Pakistan where medocrity rules.

Extension will only bring critics. If I am right, then even if Gen Raheel is offered extension,he will decline it...

Churchill was brought back from retirement to fight world war 2...

I am in favour of giving this guy an extension

I support his extension for three more years. If he had to take over and impose a martial law he had the best chance last year when qadri and ik were in Islamabad. But he let the political government sort things out which means he is not power hungry but true to the cause of making this country a better place.

I am pretty sure next COAS will not throw everything done under Raheel in to garbaje bin and start over like every new elected goverment do. This policy of operation till last terrorist will continue hopefully.

Depends on the next person and "choosers" priorities at that time
