Operations in Dir and Buner

Muslim khan is a sob
talibs have realized importance of information warfare

and an indian jocker who said troops might have surrendered on free will forgets how taliban beheaded soldiers in swat and waziristan
so they{troops} fight to end because they know taliban very well now

howsoever do TTP manage to take such a large number of hostages of security personnel can someone elucidate? it can only be possible if there is voluntary surrender by majority of troops in sympathy with ideals being propogated by TTP

I have never heard of such instances in ANY CI-grid operation where security forces surrender en-masse. seems the operations are a farce.

Guud guess!
But if that had been the case those who 'surrendered' should had joined ranks with the Talibans and had been fighting against the military.

So unfortunately your guess has gone for six and efforts are on way to get them back, i wonder why those 18 who were rescued didnt run back to the talibans?

you believe Muslim khan? he is no 1 layer of Pakistan now when we kick them he spread this propaganda same as past were is any footage or image that 150 security personal surrender.tali ban are looking for small places now for hide from cobras .

but such rumors will sap your confidence soon enough.

hope its not true (i also found it inpalatable)

purely commenting on the last para of the article posted ...... :frown:

we will see there is no more worst then current time we are ready to face every thing.its do or die.

Where did you find the surrendered in that para?:undecided:

as usual enigmatic you are !!!!!!!!!!!

Meanwhile, the spokesman for the Swat Taliban, Muslim Khan, claimed to have taken hostage about 150 security forces’ personnel in the Jor area. He, however, said all of them were later released, but weapons were taken from them. He also claimed to have captured a camp in the same area.

I was commenting on this. Bloody unpalatable until and unless a voluntary surrender (which is equally strange but FC did it previously so confusing)

:hitwall:
Beating about the bush again!

First i know which para were you referring to.

Second, please keep your guess work harnessed until you can support it with something, or you'll embarrass yourself dear.

Third, there was no logic in your 'comment' that you made on that para, i'll just call it hoax!

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Thursday the government would restore its writ in all troubled areas, including Dir and Buner where a military operation is under way to flush out militants.

‘The operation in Lower Dir and Buner was meant to re-establish the writ of the Constitution and for ‘restoring Quaid-i-Azam’s Pakistan’,’ Mr Gilani said during a meeting with Interior Minister Rehman Malik at the Prime Minister’s House.

He said: ‘At this crucial time, entire nation should forget political differences and get united to meet the challenges. This is the only way that designs of militants and extremists can be defeated.’

According to a spokesman for the prime minister, the interior minister briefed Mr Gilani on law and order and the situation in Karachi.

He apprised him of the steps being taken by law-enforcement agencies to maintain law and order in the country’s commercial hub.

Later, Rehman Malik said in a statement that a common strategy was needed to defeat extremism and terrorism in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

‘We cannot succeed unless Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nato and the US evolve a common strategy against the Taliban,’ he said.

He stressed the need for a robust strategy for combating the Pakistani and Afghan Taliban. ‘When we are allies then our strategy on the war on terror must be one and common,’ he added.

He said US drone attacks were counter-productive because they alienated local people and harmed government efforts to muster public support.

Our forces have the ability and capacity and we request US officials to share intelligence with us. Being a democratic country, the US should listen to the voice of the people of Pakistan and stop drone attacks. We ask them to transfer drone technology,’ he said.

He said the ‘Friends of Pakistan’ should extend all-out support because the country had spent over $35 billion in the war on terror.

Pakistan: 55 Militants, 2 Troops Dead in Battle
Friday, May 01, 2009

Print ShareThisISLAMABAD — Pakistan's army says 55 militants and two troops have been killed in the past 24 hours in a raging battle for a district near the capital.

Military spokesman Maj. Gen. Athar Abbas says the militants killed in the Buner region included foreigners. He did not give any details of their identity.

Abbas also told a news conference Friday that militants had kidnapped 10 troops in the nearby Dir district.

Meanwhile, the spokesman for the Swat Taliban, Muslim Khan, claimed to have taken hostage about 150 security forces’ personnel in the Jor area. He, however, said all of them were later released, but weapons were taken from them. He also claimed to have captured a camp in the same area.
It woudl be pretty surprising for the TTP to take 150 SF's hostage and then release them, given the ongoing hostilities.

However, AFAIK, the GoP is sticking with the ceasefire and peace deal in Swat valley (I am assuming Jor falls in Swat). So if Muslim Khan's comments are true, then taking any security forces or LEA's hostage would be another violation of the peace deal, which would explain the claim that they were captured and released.

On the SF side, so long as the GoP holds to the peace deal, the SF's would be ordered not to engage unless attacked, and if MK's claims are true, the alleged 'surrender' may have been done in order to not inflame the situation and maintain perceptions that the government was still holding to the deal on its end.

Govt rejects Sufi Mohammad’s plea to end offensive
Friday, 01 May, 2009 | 03:55 PM PST |
PESHAWAR: Provincial authorities said they rejected Friday Sufi Mohammad’s request to halt an offensive against Taliban militants as peace talks between the two camps resumed.

Talks between the North West Frontier Province’s government and Sufi Mohammad, who negotiated the peace accord in Swat valley, resumed Friday in a northwestern district, Sufi’s spokesman said.

Government officials and Sufi Mohammad met for the first time Friday after talks were suspended Monday when the army launched an offensive against Taliban fighters in the northwest.

Provincial officials and supporters of Mohammad described the 30-minute meeting as ‘positive’ but no date for a second meeting was announced.

‘Sufi Mohammad asked us to halt the operation,’ NWFP’s information minister, Iftikhar Hussain, told AFP.

‘The operation will be halted when the armed people lay down their weapons because the government has to establish its writ at any cost,’ he added.

it will make no sense if we stop the operation now... just implement NAR and tell them to lay down arms and they dont then kill them all

RAWALPINDI: Around 60 militants were killed in the Buner operation in the last 24 hours, Director-General Inter-Services Public Relations, Major General Athar Abbas told a press briefing on Friday.

Eight to 10 militants were killed in the Shabdara attack, he said, adding that Buner's militant casualties included foreigners.

He said Daggar has been cleared of militants and a military checkpost has also been set-up in the area, adding that efforts were underway to clear the Daggar-Ambela road.

However, militants still have not vacated north of Ambela as security forces were facing stiff resistance in the area, Abbas said.

A suicide attacker was also arrested from the area, he said.

Abbas said situation was normalising in Lower Dir where a curfew was also relaxed on Friday.

Locals were also fighting against militants in the district where two security personnel were killed and two others were wounded during the operation, Abbas said.

Suicide vehicles were also destroyed during the Lower Dir operation, he said.

but you have just seen the results of a deal done in spirit of your amicable settlements ..... diplomacy has to be backed by display of and willingness to use force.

The deals have worked very well. They have placated a lot of people who were rebelling. There is a core of people who will never be placated by any deal. In those cases, there's a case for the Pakistan Army to target them, even though if they could be brought in line by the locals who did the deals, that would be better.

I see a lot of foreign interests trying to wreck these deals.
