Gen Raheel Sharif is trying to rebuild Pak’s military ties with Washington that has been undermined by the US raid that found and killed Osama bin laden.
WASHINGTON: Pakistan's top military general brought complaints about his border spats with India to US doorsteps even as the country's chief foreign advisor undercut his narrative of Pakistan's struggle against terrorism by saying his government is not going to target militants that do not pose a threat to the state.

On his first visit to the US as the country's army chief — and the first in four years by a top Pakistani general — Gen Raheel Sharif is trying to rebuild the country's military ties with Washington that has been undermined by the US raid on a Abbottabad villa that found and killed Osama bin laden and flaming rows over spying activity against each other. Ahead of the visit, Sharif and his US-dependent army has tried to rebuild the narrative about Pakistan's renewed resolve to fights terrorists (against the universal perception that it actually fosters them) in order to extract more aid and military supplies.

Part of the narrative also involves telling the US that India's aggressive posture on its border is distracting Pakistan from its fight against extremists on its border with Afghanistan. Sharif made this point in his interaction in Tampa on Monday with US Central Command chief Gen Lloyd Dennis, under whose jurisdiction Pakistan falls. "Gen #Raheel gave Pak perspective on regional security, improving Pak-Afgn mil relation, Indian aggression along LOC," tweeted Pakistan's military spokesman Asim Bajwa.

But ahead of Raheel Sharif's meeting in Washington DC on Tuesday when he is scheduled to call on the chairman of joint chiefs staff General Martin Dempsey and other Washington principals, Pakistan's foreign advisor Sartaj Aziz embarrassed him by suggesting in an interview to BBC that Pakistan has not really changed with respect to its assessment about terrorism - it will act only against terrorists who fight the Pakistani state and will not touch others.

"Why should America's enemies unnecessarily become our enemies," Aziz, Pakistani prime minister's advisor on national security and foreign affairs, was quoted as saying. "When the United States attacked Afghanistan, all those that were trained and armed by us together were pushed towards Pakistan. Some of them were dangerous for us and some were not. Why must we make enemies out of them all?"

The Pakistani foreign office reeled back his comments saying he statement was made in a "historical context" and Pakistan's resolve to fight all terrorists should not be doubted, but it remains to be seen how all this will go down in Washington, where many long time Pakistan sympathizers infused with romantic memories of Cold War partnerships are fading away, and the new crop of military and civilian leaders are lacerated by stories of Pakistani depredations that has killed and wounded thousands of US troops in Afghanistan.

Some of the Pakistani double-dealing is captured in vivid details in the fourth season of an ongoing television series called Homeland — a Washington staple — dealing with security challenges to the United States.

Raheel and the Pakistan team are attempting to overcome the stigma by launching a full-scale military operation against militants in its tribal regions and making peace with the new government in Kabul ahead of their visit to Washington DC, but for a change the country's civilian leadership may have torpedoed the mission.

Weak PA can not take kashmir then why supa power India take back Azad Kashmir and Chinese occupied kashmir and make indian proud.this opportunity is not going to last forever hurry up lazy general.:coffee:

Actually Indians are not that powerful to take land from Pakistan either.

So calm down a bit.

. .
War is not a bachon ka khail.

So don't try to make it one.
What it has to do with my post? How can any skirmish with India (Pak's eastern front) can affect it's western front C-I if it were cable of handling 2 front operations?

.
LOL
They can't take the beating anymore.

Well this is what happens when IA responds properly to PA's border transgressions.
IA was shackled during Congress rule but now IA will not sit back when they fire at us.

Pak's case is that of a guy given a punishment choice between eating 100 onions or 100 lashes. He opts for onions but can't go beyond 50 so ends up "receiving" both :-):(:-):(

.
Tactically speaking, if any Indian action that would cause Pakistan to shift forces back to eastern side would involve massing of troops by India, as it would mean replacing paramilitary forces with the army. Which in turn would mean either war or a serious engagement. This would involve cancellation of holidays for troops etc. All this can be tracked via news or satellite. So far no such indication of activities.
So either the report is false and PA Chief did not say that or he is not completely honest and the Americans know that.

I'm sure it's embarassing to see your mard-e-momeens impotently running to the evil, "touts of kuffar" Americans for help.

@OrionHunter : This should be our response from now on, to any inceident of ceasefire violation or any attempt to push infiltrators - no more proportionate response - escalate the stakes and retaliate massively at all the army and ranger posts that fired at us, or tried to help mujjus to sneak in. Burn the post to cinders. We know that we have enough firepower and resources to give them an escalated response each time.

Exactly!! It was so lame to match the size of mortars to the last millimeter while retaliating all these years!!

Why not raise the stakes and hit the provocateurs disproportionately and make the whole monkey-business, unaffordable?!

It may NOT prevent the next round of violations, but at least they will know beforehand that there will be a massive retaliation and an exorbitant cost to be paid for any such misadventure!!

Americans: yawn! alright so you have a new guy; send him here, let him have a few meetings, couple of nice scotch on a plane ride, say what he has to, then go away. Even that because we got a call from the Saudi prince's secretary that they'd like us to not totally ignore this guy. (yes, Gen.Shariff has a background with a key Saudi prince and was why picked to this job; kinda their man in Islamabad to keep a closer eye on their other vassal, one Mr.Sharif).

Indians: aiyay, aiyay Shri.Sharifji. thoda biryani ho jaye. ye kashmir kishmer ka bath nahi hogi samja.

just dont cancel a cricket match with us
Thats so unfortunate. BCCI dont understand that this era is a perfect tym to clear off the win deficit of Pakistan. We play so much with SL. Wish it was Pak. Its our loss.

it not called complain but stating the truth , and letting the world know what IA is doing on LoC ...
cause unlike Indians we dont try to be Angels ..
they talk about talks and start violating cease fire on LOC , and the world major powers should know , that who is provoking war ...
and Indians should not forget their place .. and in Past Indians are the one who cry and runs to UN for cease fire .. not Pakistan ,
COAS did right , and i am sure he did mentioned about the Proxy war India wants to start in Afghanistan ....
One things Indians should put in their tiny brains , that they are jumping in Afghanistan only until US and Nato forces is stationed , when they will leave , they will understand what Pakistan can do when it comes to proxy ..
so better take the path of peace , rather than violating cease fire on LOC and play proxies in Afghanistan...
"and in Past Indians are the one who cry and runs to UN for cease fire",
Yes that was the past. Now that they have Usrael as their main advisor, you can see that their policies have totally changed and are in line with the Usraeli ones in the middle east.
Gaza and est bank vs Kashmir Status quo, proxy wars, false flag operations, media manipulations and aggressive words and actions... These policies will eventually lead to Usrael demise in the middle east, but what about India who's traditional policies do not match this new aggressive path that has opened a whole new dimension in the Asian political arena, and extend much further... South, North, East and West.

.
So, it means if Pakistan faces war on both front then they can't handle it? If this message PA wants to give to its own citizen then good luck.

.
Its funny to see how easily indian pants are set on fire. When you get a little attention from USA you start jumping up n down and take pride. When someone else puts their perspective they're crying. Deep down you people also know your place. You're just a cash register for the world, which will soon turn into a burden due to your uncontrollable population and limited resources.

Time? Even BCCI knows they will get much more earnings than against any other team. Its not bout tym but sheer politics. Even Indians strongly believe, Pak nationals shud get to play in India but its all bout uncertainity. It suffers u huge loss if tours r cancelled due to strained relations or some untoward event. Hope things normalize fast.

It is a clever and time tested move by General Raheel. On one hand he's showing the Americans sincerity towards fighting terrorism, on the other he's indicated constraints(fabricated) which may cause failure in doing so. What he actually desires is aid from US, as soon as the green army gets it, expect more fireworks at Indo-Pak borders till they run out of ammo again.
