Niazi is an incompetent officer, you dont have to be pakistani to know that. he had no idea oh how to keep a peace and let his ego go to his head.

Bhutto left 30-40 thousand troops in East Pakistan and forgot about them
West Pakistan public were cheerleading behind Bhutto, giving a damn about what's happening in East Pakistan.
Pakistan's few thousand army was on their own against a foreign enemy India and local insurgency. It was stupid to keep fighting, only to get killed while nobody gave a damn not even the leadership of West Pakistan.
Bhutto had only one interest and one only, to Gain control of government. He was busy rallying stupid west Pakistan's Muppets out on the streets, who were barking and biting on his orders. Bhutto was also busy scuttling Army command. Many experienced generals were forced to retire early under Bhutto's pressure, completely destroying chain of command and leadership.
Under those circumstances Niazi did what was best for his men and their families. Made a deal with Indian general Makenshaw for a surrender in return of safe passage. Makenshaw was known to Pakistan army as from Sandhurst, same as many generals of Pakistan's army. He could be trusted enough to keep his words, and hence the deal.
Bhutto damn cared and even after Niazi deal and surrender, it took another six months for Pakistan's army and their families to reach west Pakistan while Makenshaw arranged security.
Then there was the issue of Biharis in Bangladesh,who considered themselves Pakistani, nobody cared about them in west Pakistan. They were left and still there.
I read today's Pakistani kids blaming it all on army and I laugh at their stupidity.
India or Mukti bahini didn't defeat us. We defeated ourselves.

Today same thing is happening nawaz پین چود only wants government. Stupid people biting and barking on his command and he is creating hate against the Army.
If anything happens now, the army may behave the same way as they did in 1971 . Only this time there may not be any Pakistan left for nawaz to rule.

The headline of this thread has been a long known fact in the circles that know the truth. Pakistan's orbat in East Pakistan at no time exceeded 40,000 troops. The actual number of 90,000 that is quoted blindly (and used as propaganda by India) included all Police and CAF from West Pakistan who had no role in combat operations.
