wow ! only 4-5 years ? and this is the period of time the corporates use to lay idle after snatching the farmers land via govt. and then they start an altogether different project on that land. no offense, but have you even read the land bill properly ?? India is 142nd because of BABUDOM, not because of poor farmers. No infrastructure has ever given a proper job opportunity to poors. It is just started with sole aim of exploiting the poors. Please go to any big project running near to you and see the status of laborers working there. Does this type of the citizens we aim for our future ???.
Again if you are hell bent on acquiring the only two bigha land of a helpless farmer on your fixed rates for the sake of our country then why not acquire the cement and steel in the same fashion also ?? us gareeb kisan kee marne bhar se India develop ho jayega ???

(01) 4-5 years for ONLY getting the permission to acquire the land - a process which doesn't take more than a couple of months or some weeks for that matter in other competing economies both emerging and developed - no one is amending the provisions concerning the land use - firms will be penalized for not using the land and sitting idle according to the original land acquisition bill 2013.

(02) Yes, development of industrial projects has given immense job opportunities to the locals who benefit directly or indirectly from the industries set up - What Singur missed, villagers of Sanand are lapping up where TATA Nano has its manufacturing plant - those farmers who once didn't have enough fortunes to buy a tractor for their fields are now crorepatis who can afford not one but as many as six of them -

That plant not only made Sanand an auto-hub with Ford setting up its facility as well but also turned villagers into crorepatis.

(03) Lets be clear about one thing -India can't be overdependent on the agricultural sector (17.4% of GDP, one of the highest in the world which average at 5.9%) if eradication of poverty is concerned.

In 1956-57 - India's poverty rate was 65% which was reduced only by 14% in 34 years by 1990 to 51% - after the liberalization of the Indian economy in 1991 we saw the very same poverty rate being reduced by 29-30% in 22 years by 2013 to 22%. This was because of the simple fact that investments started to pour in and the industrial and services sector began to overshadow the agricultural sector of the economy.

India’s economy needs to reach an annual growth rate of 9% to 10% and then sustain that activity “many, many more years than 10 years” in order to improve infrastructure and bring down rampant poverty creating more and more jobs as per the growth in the population and to harness the demographic dividend. If that little 8% growth comes at the price of some farmers then be sure that if that growth doesn't come - it would actually cost the entire nation in a much more devastating way. Such issues are not unique to India - you will find them in any other developing economy - we will continue to address them. Do you have any other option?

this is what's happening right now on one of the news channel. Trying to trend #NepalBetrayal
They are sensationalist losers, aren't they? I believe Arnab tries to play the same game vis a vis getting stupid things to trend and has been called up on this a few times in recent times.

Anyway, regarding that news, the truth is:

The foreign ministry said on Monday that the Nepal government had asked countries to remove their "first response" teams as the focus is now on relief, rather than rescue. Speculation that the Nepal government is angry with foreign agencies was emphatically denied by officials in Kathmandu as well as Delhi.

"As such, Nepal has asked all rescue teams from 34 nations to withdraw. They now need rubble removal equipment and have asked India for help, an army engineering team will be going," the ministry said.

The Govt of Nepal is behaving most peculiarly

The key is to bypass the hostile media and communicate directly with the people. This seems to be on the cards.

One year in office: PM Modi to spearhead 'Jan Sampark Karyakram', Cabinet Ministers to visit villages

NEW DELHI: As the Narendra Modi government gets ready to celebrate its first anniversary, cabinet ministers have been asked to spread the word about its achievements to all corners of the country, especially to the villages. That's part of a strategy to get the message across as the government looks to counter a narrative that appears to have turned against the administration recently.

In a Jan Sampark Karyakram or public contact programme targeted to counter accusations that the government is pro-corporate and publicise its 'pro-poor, pro-farmer' policies, all ministers have been asked to go to their constituencies and other remote areas from May12-30 and hold press conferences and public meetings.

It is learnt that Modi himself is keen on travelling outside Delhi to showcase his government's efforts to reach out to the rural population.

Top officials in the government said Modi has expressed interest in spending May 26, the day he assumed charge last year, in a remote area or his constituency.

"Although nothing has been decided yet, there is a strong possibility that he may attend a function or address the press in some remote part of the country. There is also a possibility that he may choose to go to Varanasi but the details will be decided after he is back from China," an official said. Modi will be making a three-nation tour to China, Mongolia and South Korea from May 14-19.

Last week, Modi had invited suggestions from some top ministers and bureaucrats on how to go about the outreach programmes marking one year of his assuming charge. Among the suggestions were a Mann ki Baat radio address by him on the government's achievements, a live chat by him on social media, an interview with Doordarshan and a press conference with the PM making a presentation on the government's achievements.

"The PM wants to take the celebration out of Delhi because he feels people everywhere have a share in it. He wants to make it people-centric, not centre-centric. Ministers were asked to visit their constituencies even during the launch of Swachh Bharat or Jan Dhan Yojana," an official added.

Ministers have also been told to use their visit to talk to people and counter the "negative campaign started by the Opposition" that is projecting the government as anti-poor.

Closer to May 30, the PM is likely to address a press conference in New Delhi although it is not sure if he will take questions from the media. It is expected that he will broadly talk about the government's projects and its schemes to improve the lives of the poor in the last one year.

Apart from this, Doordarshan has been asked to conduct interviews with ministers and with expert panels who will explain the reach and benefits government schemes have yielded.

"Doordarshan has sent its teams to remote villages to bring back videos of people talking about how Skill India or Jan Dhan Yojana have transformed their lives. The biggest attempt of the programme is to crush the image that the government is pro-corporate. The theme of our campaign will be to show how the government policies are in the best interest of rural India," an official said.

Doordarshan is expected to start showing programmes about the government's achievements from May 15 and they will go on until May 26. The Prime Minister and the ministries are also likely to use social media to reach out to people in the course of these celebrations.

With just a fortnight to go for the festivities to begin, back-to-back meetings have begun with various ministries of the government. I&B secretary Bimal Julka is spearheading the exercise to project the work done by the government on all platforms —social media, Doordarshan and All India Radio.

All ministries have submitted success stories related to new schemes handled by their departments to the I&B ministry. These will be translated into all regional languages and sent to government institutions across the country besides being promoted on social media. It is understood that Rajyavardhan Rathore, the minister of state for information and broadcasting, has written to ministries that have not sent data in the required format, seeking more complete information on various schemes that could be publicised.

Get Jaitley out of MoF... He is a lawyer and has started to behave like one. Media management has been terrible. Unless this is given to someone other than Jaitley and his cronies, nothing will improve on this front.

On the contrary he is doing better. He is controlling Fiscal Deficit in a better way.

To be honest nothing on the Ground have changed. I must say Modi govt do not have the support I gave them a year back. They have taken fast decisions for now, which was better than no decisions at all.

Now whether the decisions will be implemented is my question. He needs to pass Land bill by joint sitting of parliament, and if he completes "Bharat Mala" within next 4 years it shall be a hell of achievement. Lots of decisions to be implemented. Need to wait.

Economy on the ground is the same, with my city Chennai suffering the worst.
