On the anvil: 5th generation Super Sukhois

Hey Kinetic,

Which Aesa is going into Super Sukhois ? Zukh AE or Ibris-E ? What are their ranges and how many air-crafts they detect and track simultaneously ? Is India also involved in the development of this aesa (i heard this somewhere) ?

I read in article on eurofighter typhoon by wikipedia. It is mentioned that stealth can be found by using IR cameras. hence new tech require to save the fighter from IR. Carbon nanogel can be useful perhaps.

I have mentioned this before in a few threads. RCS avoids radar detection. IR detects engines signature. Modifying the nozzles enables an aircraft to reduce IR signature significantly. Su30MKI already has this modification and further upgrades are expected.

As per reports it is going to be fitted with a Phazotron Zhuk-AE. Zhuk-AE can detect aerial targets at ranges up to 130 km (head on) in both look-up or look down modes. Look-up tail-on detection range is 50km (40km look down). The radar can track 30 aerial targets in the track-while-scan mode, and engage six targets simultaneously in the attack mode.

Not sure of India's involvement in this project. India is already operating the BAR phased array radar on its Su-30MKI and had specified AESA as a critical element of the MRCA platform which led to this developement.

Zhuk AE was speculated, but now with IRKUT officials confirming BARS AESA upgrade, this could be the real solution, but we will have to weight for reliable specs. I doubt that we will be really involved in the development, because we are too far behind in this field and might offer only some Indian parts, like we integrated into BARS earlier anyway. Btw, Irbis- E is a more capable PESA radar, based on the BARS PESA.

Snacho already replied. i want to add something... It is not final which one it will be. Earlier Zhuk-AE was proposed by Russians but India might not have accepted it. I think it will be a new radar. Irbis-E is a PESA radar. So we have to wait. It is also possible that it is a bigger and better Zhuk-AE.

You are right. But it should not be called upgrade but a new radar altogether. PESA cannot be upgraded to AESA. They are totally different. Though many times the PESA to AESA 'upgrade word is used like in Rafale RBE2.
