The reality is quite opposite.

Muslims have been the perpetrators of invasions, rapine, genocide and slavery on a vast number of people.

The only provocation was that those people existed and were kaffirs.

What the Mongols, and to a smaller extent the crusaders, did to the Muslims was on a much lower scale.

Their bigotry in India has not been punished significantly as well.

The argument is that hate speech is not good for anyone, goose or gander, and a striving towards a more tolerant world should stigmatize all such speech, from all quarters, in the same way that racist speech is stigmatized in polite circles.

I disagree that the way forward is to block everything regarded as hateful or insulting to religion. All religions are insulting to intelligence & Islam like other abrahamic religions are insulting of other faiths. See no need to necessarily buckle down to religious bigots simply because they can & will threaten violence. The key here is to inculcate tolerance & common sense to those who follow a particular religion rather than expect the world to give in to the threat of violence & humour such people.
