In order to cope with the expansion in olive plantations (1,000.000 trees) and the subsequent huge yield, the company has installed a modern olive pressing mill of 240 tons/day, which is the largest in the region. The extraction technique is purely natural (on cold), which maintains the natural flavor, taste and nutritional composition of the oil. Aljouf olive oil had gained an excellent international reputation in the major olive oil markets in the world. A volume of 600 tons had been exported to Spain and Italy. Aljouf olive oil has been certified as organic by the prestigious organization C O A F.

A delegation of representatives of the Saudi olive growing sector was received on 7 October by various officials of the IOC Executive Secretariat, including the Executive Director, the Deputy Directors, the Head of the Department of Research & Development and Environment and the Head of the Promotion Unit.

Mr Aboabat, the CEO of the company Al-Watania and Mr Sahbi Mahjoub from the Agromillora Group, provided information about activities in Saudi Arabia to develop the olive sector. In particular, they spoke about the development of what is currently the largest organic olive orchard in the world, with 20 million olive trees grown under irrigation, using the abundant subterranean water reserves, to create a plantation density of 1500 trees per hectare. This orchard is located in the province of Al Jouf, on the border with Iraq and Jordan. The olive harvest is entirely mechanised and the orchard is equipped with mills, and storage and packaging units. It exports part of its production to Spain, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait.

The majority of Saudi Arabia has a desert climate, with extreme temperature differences between night and day. Temperatures can reach 50ºC in the summer with very low annual rainfall.

Mr Aboabat requested information on IOC activities and in particular on the conditions of IOC membership. The IOC officials presented their respective activities and encouraged Saudi Arabia to attend the meeting of the Advisory Committee on Olive Oil and Table Olives as an observer, in order to familiarise itself with the different areas of IOC action.

All the participants hoped that the meeting would be the beginning of a fruitful collaboration between Saudi Arabia and the IOC.

This is impressive. The olive tree is native to Northern Arabia and thus Northern KSA by default and grows in most regions of KSA (it is also a blessed fruit in Islam) but olives and olive oil was never mass-produced in KSA until fairly recently, so this news is a great achievement by the farmers of Al Jouf province. It shows that with the right government support and private investors, things can move forward on an international scale. There is much more to come given recent developments in the agricultural sector in that part of KSA. If done in a sustainable manner this is very positive. However once again we face the problem of lack of interest by the youth in agriculture and young people moving to the bigger towns (urbanization in KSA which is already among the highest in all of the Muslim world). I guess that this is where foreign labour has come to stay unless a greater number of local volunteers and women will work/help this sector.

Honestly I love olives in every variety.They give more fruitful taste when used in pickle.Also the olive oil is great everyday deal to use either in cooking or any other way.My father lived in KSA for 38 years and he used olive and olive oil now he is well over 60 but still on his toes and is healthy.About pakistani youth,just like in most countries its the westernisation or urbanisation of rural areas they,re not intrested in their nature rich culture and way of living anymore.everyone wishes and try to move to europe or america.btw I am surprised to see in Jazan there is so much variety in Mango,s. Love them all.

Saudi Arabian agricultural products tend to do that. Try some Saudi Arabian dates this Ramadan and you will discover this yourself. Maybe you will even turn green.

JEDDAH: The Ministry of the Environment, Water and Agriculture aims to plant 4 million trees in the Kingdom by 2020, its undersecretary for environmental affairs, Osama bin Ibrahim Faqiha, told the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
In a workshop organized by the ministry with the participation of agriculture officials, he said the campaign aims to achieve sustainable growth in forests and pastures, rehabilitation of vegetation cover, sustainable management of natural resources, and the best use of irrigation water.
Faqiha pointed to controls in terms of suitable places for planting, and protection against grazing and trespassing.
He said the Kingdom has more than 2,500 kinds of plants, with the diversity aided by its climate and terrain.
Faqiha said planting 4 million trees is only the beginning. The ministry plans to provide 6 million seedlings for public and private companies, in order to maintain sustainability in agriculture and preserve the types of trees that are suitable for the local environment.
He said the first stage of the campaign will involve planting 300,000 seedlings in the regions of Riyadh, Al-Qassim, Hail, the Northern Border, Asir, Makkah, Tabuk, Madinah and Al-Baha.

Largest single olive tree plantation (Nadec) in the world (3.5 million olive trees) in the same Al-Jouf province according to the video. However I am not sure if this is the case but I assume that it is by all accounts one of the largest in the world.

Olive fields, olive trees, olives and olive oil are gifts from God!
