Oil and Gas dicovered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

ok even if there are huge reserves, but we dont have that kind infrastructure and man power!
but i think we can always ask for help from saudia arabia and maybe china?

.
i am not a geologist but Pakistan's 'mineral-mix' is favoured more towards natural gas, coal than oil. this new find will produce more gas than oil - anyway its a good development.

.
Great News - lets pray its a substantial reserve that could solve some of our problems.

if the reserve are substantial then pakistan's economic problem will diminish but other problem over the share of revenue may rise like sudan .and if the revenue cannot manage properly then the benefit will goes only to some people. but anyway it will makes pakistan the world most influencial muslim country after saudia arabia as military power will combine with economic power.

Based on 2006 data, total proven reserves of oil in Pakistan were 300 million barrels and of gas about 32 trillion cubic feet (TCF).

In international terms this is insignificant. Pakistan requirement is about 200,000 bbls per day of oil thus our oil reserves are good for about 4 years only. In OPEC terms these won’t be worth the mention. Kuwait has 80-billion barrels and Iran and Iraq about 40-billion barrels each. Saudi Arabia 140-billion?

Additionally, it is estimated that most large reservoirs (5-billion or more) have already been discovered. Most Pakistani reservoirs are about 30-million barrels only. Let us hope that this find is at least worth that much. Oil from this field will probably be used by Attock oil refinery.

Pakistan fares better in terms of gas. Still, reserves of 32 TCF are peanuts compare to Iran ( 140-tcf) and Qatar ( 600 tcf). Iran still has lot of undiscovered gas. Sui was a good size field but now has about 3 tcf reserves left. Uch and Qadirpur field are the largest with about 5 to 6 tcf reserves each. Let us hope that this field has in excess of 1-tcf.

Pakistan has fractured structures with quite a few small size but commercially viable oil & gas fields. Therefore any new discovery, while more than welcome, is unlikely to solve our economic ills.

More than likely it is a gas field associated with small amounts of liquid hydrocarbons.

My request to our Indian fellows is to stop their warmongering - we still are waiting on reports on its size and what you need to keep in mind is that Pakistan is not Nigeria.

So please keep your warmongering away !

MOL again strikes oil in Pakistan
By Hungary Around the Clock
MOL drills in the Tal block in Pakistan have hit oil and gas for the fifth time, the energy company announced on the Budapest Stock Exchange website.

The top 50 metres of a layer at a depth of 3,400 metres can produce 3,209 barrels of oil and 10.7 million cubic feet of gas daily.

Drilling will continue in the next three months to explore the total capacity of the block.

MOL has a 10% stake in the field's consortium, which consists of Oil and Gas Development, Pakistan Petroleum, Pakistan Oilfields and Government Holdings as its members.

pakistan has always been rich in resources and potential.
question is how we exploit and utilize them.
not very well, I would say.

.
Because the way we choose to exploit resources is not geared towards creating profitability for the entity. Any time a government official can have control over assets that do not comply with market realities, things will go south --- Perhaps Pakistan can learn from Malaysia, which creates public-Private partnerships wherein "public" (read government) does not take a management role and the entities are run to create sustainable profitability???

I have got some info thru private sources.

As I expected, TAL Block located just north of Karak consists of pockets of gas producing structures. This is the 5th discovery. Total gas reserves of the area, when fully exploited, could reach 6 to 7 tcf rivaling Qadirpur gas fields. There are associated hydrocarbon liquids or Condensate. Total production from the field could eventually reach 4 to 5 thousand barrels per day of Condensate and about 30 million cft of gas.

The gas from TAL would be processed at the Manzali gas plant along with Karak gas. Expected out put from the Karak/TAL region could reach 100 –million cft of CNG.

Not great but still substantial and would go a long way toward meeting gas demand of Northern Pakistan.

About a dozen more discoveries like this would make Pakistan self suficient in natural gas for the next 25 years.

KARACHI: MOL Pakistan, an oil and gas exploration company, has announced the discovery of new reserves of hydrocarbons in Tal block in Kohat district. BMA Capital reported that a press release issued by the Hungarian origin company confirmed the discovery.

“The initial flow rate suggests that 3,200 barrels of oil and 11 million metric cubic feet of gas (mmcfd) per day may be recovered from this site,” according to the release.

Oil and Gas Development Company, Pakistan Petroleum Limited and Pakistan Oilfields hold ownership stakes of 28, 28 and 21 per cent, respectively, in Tal block. Analysts have predicted that the new discovery should add 2, 4 and 12 per cent to the bottom line for the three companies, respectively. Makori and Manzalai fields are already productive in this area while two more fields, Mamikhel and Maramzai are expected to become operational by next year.

“In terms of production numbers, Tal block may not be the most significant but for the future this area may well become the flagship for the exploration and production sector,” said BMA analyst Hammad Aslam. “The block also has a 55 per cent success ratio compared with about 33 per cent for the rest of the areas being explored,” said Aslam, adding that “this gives a promising image of the potential of this region.”

55 per cent is the success ratio of discovery in Tal block, compared to 33 per cent in other areas.

KARACHI: MOL Pakistan Oil & Gas Co. will construct three primary schools in TAL Block. An agreement in this regard was signed between MOL Pakistan Oil & Gas Co. and The Citizen Foundation (TCF) in a simple but impressive ceremony held at office of the MOL Pakistan in Islamabad.

Janos Feher, MD/CEO of MOL Pakistan and Asaad Ahmad, CEO TCF signed the agreement.

The three primary schools will be constructed in TAL Block comprising of the districts of Karak, Hangu and Kohat of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa province. The construction of first of the three schools would shortly commence in Gurguri. People of the area widely hailed the initiative and hoped for better educational facilities for their children.

Construction of these schools is part of CSR initiatives of MOL Pakistan which emerged in the form of helping people in the wake of the catastrophic floods when it dispatched a total of thirteen trucks comprising food and non food items including medicines, tents and clothing to the affected areas. And still, on other occasions it offers scholarships to the poor and needy students of engineering, geology, geophysics and associate engineering in areas of its operations'. staff report

I Have A Feeling That Thar Coal Reqo Diq and The Alleged Six Trillion Barrel Oil Reserves on The Coast of Balochistan (There is a Whole Thread on This)are Just The Tip of The Iceberg.
Combine This With an Extremely Important Geo Strategic Location,One Can Imagine The Kind of Wealth That Can Flow Into Our Coffers.
Allah Has Given Us So Much But We Just Don't Have The Right Leadership Which is Why Inspite of Being a Nuclear Power We Have To Beg From The Arabs and West. Then They Interfere In Our Internal Politics.
