OGDC finds oil, gas in Hyderabad

KARACHI: The Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDC) has discovered reserves of hydrocarbon in the exploratory well Pasakhi deep well No 4 in Hyderabad district, Company Secretary Ahmed Hayat Lak told stock exchanges on Friday.

The oil and gas giant has 100 per cent working interest in Pasakhi lease.

“The structure of Pasakhi deep well No 4 was delineated, drilled and tested using OGDCL’s in-house expertise,” the company official said.

The well was drilled down to the depth of 3,460m, targeting to test the hydrocarbon potential of massive sands of lower Goru formation where the company hit on the hydrocarbon reserves.

The OGDC said that the zone had been tested with 14.015mmscfd of gas and 125bpd of condensate at 36/64inch choke size.

“This discovery of hydrocarbon in Pasakhi deep well No 4 will add to the hydrocarbon reserves base of OGDCL,” the company asserted.

Analyst Mohammad Affan Ismail at brokerage BMA Capital commented that the discovery, which stands at 14.02mmcfd of gas and 125bpd of oil would slightly impact the company’s annualised earnings.

Quoting Pakistan Petroleum Information Service (PPIS), the analyst observed that OGDC was further pursuing exploratory drilling in seven more wells (four wells were near completion) mainly in gas rich Sindh and Balochistan regions.

Good News, But no Private channel highlighting that great News??
It will take 12 Month for fully Operational, But there is current statistics of How much we are fulfilling current needs and what percentage we are importing

How much Local Gas accounts for total National Demand??
For Example: We're fulfilling Oil need Locally 108,000 Barrel (Daily) out of 380,000 Barrel total Daily Demand.....

When I was in School (matriculation) 2000, I used to study in Pak-Studies Pak fulfill 26% GAS from its own reserves, Now in 14 years we are heading Onwards or Backward???

ISLAMABAD: In a major development, the Energy Information Administration (EIA), the American federal authority on energy statistics and analysis, has estimated fresh recoverable shale gas reserves of 105 trillion cubic feet (TCF) and more than nine billion barrels of oil in Pakistan.

These estimates of recoverable hydrocarbon reserves are many times larger than so far proven reserves of 24 TCF for gas and about 300 million barrels for oil. Pakistan currently produces about 4.2 billion cubic feet of gas and about 70,000 barrels of oil per day.

One poster has already pointed out earlier that Pakistan’s older reservoirs such as Sui, Mari & Qadirpur are fast depleting. You need to continually add new field just to maintain the production level.

Any new find is good news but we must keep the total energy requirement in perspective. For the record, any gas reservoir of less than 1-TCF is considered small. The new discovery of 300 to 400-bilion cft is a small reservoir. Pakistan is short of 1.8-billion cft per day. 300-billion reservoir; assuming you can take all of it out; is barely sufficient for 6 months.

It expected that gas short fall will reach 8-billion cft per day by 2025. Our total gas reserves are about 31- tcf producing about 4.2 –billion cft per day. We not only need to keep our current production level, but also find new reservoirs to increase the production level to 12-billiob cft per day. You need to find at least 4 gas fields of Sui capacity with in next 10 years to come even close.

We must also start importing LNG immediately and start work on fracking tight/shale gas right away. Else, say good bye to Pakistan’s economic well-being.

Well let me add one more excuse for the future to the list of excuses Pakistanis already have thanks to the politicians we have who have a far sighted long term vision of prosperous Pakistan:

Pakistan does not have enough gas to grow it's industrial base to turn the cycle of the economy
