Obama is not on the fence at all - he is firmly against granting Palestine recognition as a member state - See, Obama's argument is that you first need a lasting peace - friends, there is nothing lasting in this world, change is the only constant. So the Palestinians really don't have a choice in this matter, if the US goes ahead with the veto, it is on the US, but US or no US, there will be a Palestinian state and what peace may or may no exist, OUGHT to be informed by the vote of the US - Erdogan has it just right, it is not an option but an obligation -- It does not matter how much more the Palestinian will give the Israel, tomorrow the Israeli will be crying for more, and the next day for even more - Palestine cannot be a threat to the Israeli state, it is the arrogance and the avarice of the Israeli state and it's sponsor, that may be the undoing of Israel -- Yes, we know of all the American weapons and the threat to use them --- The world is past these things, it is no accident that the US has lost as much prestige and moral authority as it has, it's no accident.

Well, that is a correct way to look at things as well: his words do signify that he is not in favor of a Palestinian state. However, the US does not want to 'veto' the proposition for a Palestinian state at the UN. There's a difference between the two. That's what I mean when I say "staying on the fence".

1) 40% off the Palestinian workforce work in Israel another 20% work for Israeli settlers.
2) 40 off electricity , 90% off water and 100% off fuel enter through Israel.
3) Palestine budget is 50% donations (mainly US and EU ) and 50% taxes collected by Israeli government.
4) Palestinians don't have a national bank or currency.
5) half of the proposed state is under the thumb off a known terrorist organization that happens to be the legal government because they won the election.
6) last but not least 6,000,00 Jewish civilians and 8,00,00 soldiers in that proposed state and they have no intention off leaving.

Wiping out Israel off the map? By Palestinians? By what? Sticks and stones?

And of-course, there needs to be an agreement as to how things should go about, and that comes with recognition of another state.

I can sympethise with India in its difficult position which forced it to support the Palestinian irresponsible behaviour in the UN: India has more than 100 million Muslim and is intimidated by a Muslim state a sponsored terrorism and all kind of barbaric acts against Indian civilians.

There is no more 'We can veto and damn the world'.
Obama and even many strategic US planners know the consequences. Every now and then some one like Petraeus hints at the Israeli Lobby undermining America's interests but Israel has just lost Egypt and Turkey as two of the strongest regional players. Who next? Saudi Arabia? Then who is left besides Israel? Cyprus? Greece? Malta?

This Israeli Lobby will be remembered in history for causing incalculable damage to the American prestige, economy, and lives lost.
