What's new

NYT: The Specter of Caste in Silicon Valley

What is happening here? I just went through 6 pages. Its all over the place...
"Zehaal-e-miskeen maqun baranjish, bahal e hijra bechaara dil hai"

I don't know Persian but it definitely sounds awesome whatever it means!
Lol.
Thats not hard to understand.....
Only word i did not know above was zihaal and makun. And first part doesn't make sense... Heard the song by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan multiple time. If one has good vocabulary of Urdu, one can probably understand it......
Though i had to ask my father about few words. People in older generations still know some persian. My father was taught in School. My grandfathers maternal and paternal both could. Hell its still one of the compulsory subject in some schools in Punjab, i mean there is a choice between Arabic and Persian after grade 5.

Between are these jibes at us really necessary ...

High caste or not, why do these US born ABCD bitches (I mean, good women) have to look so disgusting, (I mean, pleasant)
I can speak for @xeuss on this matter. Neither of us will touch this fossilized pachyderm with a ten-foot pole. :cheesy:

You're welcome to enjoy the "shorts" thing. The very idea disgusts us.
@Joe Shearer This guy has apparently broken the CODE. What would be the next steps? A possible rehabilitation therapy? The white words are clearly visible in the grey background.

I did my bit of reporting but unfortunately the 2 posts of his are still part of the thread. It would be really helpful if others report it as well. There was an additional 3rd post which was fortunately removed by the mods.

The simple reason that ISRO is behind is that it wasn't ambitious from the start, preferring to be happy with satellite launches. Contrast with SpaceX which from the start aimed to make humans multi-planetary with Mars as the first goal.
SpaceX is part of the capitalist system though.

So Muslims giving gyan on Hinduism?
Just check the situation of Ahmadiyya and take care for your own religion first.
What happened last week in Bangladesh? fanatics 'dig up three-day-old girl's body from cemetery.

This is a old dream of Communist of India and cast based partied to divide Hindus in India so that they can rule.
BJP/RSS with there resources are undoing all their dreams. Just wait for election of Uttar Pradesh you all will get your answers.

Sadly, sometimes it does take an outsider to point out the flaws. Seems like you believe rigidly in the caste system, hence the aversion to hear the plight of the Dalits.

.
Most US NRI's that are Hindu, on arrived there on a Hindu-1B visa, are ardent supporters of BJP. In fact, it's among the Indian diaspora in the USA that you find the most rabid Hindutvadis.

That is true , I have seen this in america , one of my doctor relative was telling me that hindus invented aeroplane and television .

.
The arm like platforms which you see in this picture were designed/engineered by my colleague, HE IS DALIT.

I do not know your friends background, but I am sure he or his family can be heralded as on of the success stories of the reservation system in India. Too often, we are told that all those who gain admission or jobs via the reservation system are worthless and incapable of any meaningful contribution. Such stories must be highlighted to put the rest the rumors that circulate around pointing of the low grades of dalits that were admitted into an institution.

It is because of this reservation system that allowed him or his family to get educated, will lead to better days ahead for his children and generations to come.

The caste system exists, no one is denying it and in fact, Indians themselves are making efforts to get rid of this menace. Fortunately, these will be some of the last vestiges of this structure and I predict that a few decades from now or maybe by 2100, this system that has haunted India for centuries will be almost negligible.

Additionally, you are peddling the same news again and again as I've already encountered this news about CISCO here on PDF.

One of the few sane posts coming from your end. Thanks.

A few of the success stories:

Marathaji...this is an OP-ED from the NYT. This OP-ED expands upon the Cisco news. Related for sure, but not the same.

While you are optimistic on the eradication of the caste system, I am not so convinced. I see within the next 5 years a concerted effort by the BJP government to weaken and eliminate the reservation system. It will be not be a singular edict that outlaws it, as that will lead to a huge outcry, but rather, smaller targeted measures that eventually hollow out the intent.

I'm always optimistic about India simply because of the wonderful people I've encountered from all parts of this great country. It also matters what information you feed yourselves with, if you keep on harping about the negative part, things look bleaky. There should be a good balance.
In my opinion, every dalit that is able to get an education is a success story. As long as you do better than your previous generation, you have succeeded.
100% in agreement.

.
Man, these stories make me so sad and angry. A lot of poor Dalit boys in India get lynched or worse for trying to woo upper caste women.

Some of them commit suicide. I am sure works the same with the Indian diaspora in the USA.

You really have to talk to the dalits here to get a feeling of what they go through. Sure there is no violence here, but most of it is silent discrimination and avoidance...like you do not belong here, you are not one of us.

SpaceX is part of the capitalist system though.

SpaceX is not so much a pure capitalist development but more to do with, and I quote Elon Musk :
“I think it’s really quite profound,” Musk said. “I think the United States is a nation of explorers, a distillation of the human spirit of exploration, and it’s obviously something that appeals to anyone who has an adventurous bone in their body.”

Just today was a thread about India's Mukesh Ambani being the world's 6th richest person. And India is the world's most capitalist society. So why is there no Indian SpaceX ? Why doesn't Mukesh Ambani promise a Mars settlement somewhere in the mid 2030s ?
