“It’s an accident that can happen anywhere in the world. Unfortunately we lost some of our colleagues,” he told a news channel.

“There was a major vibration in the air and then the helicopter took a vicious circle. It went up and then went down. In the next moment it just dropped,” he said.

He said it was a miracle that there were many survivors. Twelve passengers survived the crash. In all there were 19 people on board.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — A militant video purports to show Taliban fighters with a surface-to-air missile, claiming they used a similar one to shoot down a Pakistani helicopter carrying diplomats.

The video, obtained by The Associated Press, includes a message from the Pakistani Taliban claiming they fired a missile from a distance of 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) to down the helicopter Friday.

The crash killed the ambassadors to Pakistan from the Philippines and Norway and the wives of the ambassadors from Malaysia and Indonesia, as well as three Pakistani crew members.

Pakistan says a technical failure caused the crash and dismissed an earlier Taliban claim they shot down the helicopter as opportunistic. However, the surface-to-air missile shown in the video appeared real.

Military officials could not be immediately reached Sunday to discuss the video.

Malaysian envoy recalls fatal helicopter crash

The Malaysian envoy who survived a helicopter crash that killed seven people, including his wife, saw the pilot killed instantly.

High Commissioner to Pakistan Datuk Dr Hasrul Sani Mujtabar, who is being treated at Gilgit Hospital in Pakistan, described how the journey had gone according to plan until they were due to land at their destination in the northern Gilgit-Baltistan region.

“After arriving at Gilgit airport everything went well except for the last few minutes when the helicopter went into a spiral and then hit the ground,” Dr Hasrul Sani said.

“I saw that the pilot was dead. Some others also died instantly and I was in the middle.

“A few others managed to escape but the fire was very strong, with smoke quickly filling the helicopter,” he said, speaking for the first time of the incident.

Hasrul’s wife Datin Habibah Mahmud was killed in the crash.

The helicopter was carrying a delegation of ambassadors to inspect projects on a three-day trip to the region, where they were set to meet with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Three envoys, including Dr Hasrul Hani, survived the incident.

Leif H. Larsen, the Norwegian envoy, and Philippine ambassador Domingo D. Lucenario Jr were killed along with the wives of the Malaysian and Indonesian ambassadors, the helicopter’s two pilots and another crew member.

Dutch Ambassador Marcel de Vink said he felt “extremely lucky” to be alive after what he had witnessed.

He was described as having sustained burns to the leg and face by the foreign ministry.

“I remember we got into a spin and so thinking, I suppose I braced a little bit for impact... afterwards I was actually opening my eyes and seeing the smoke and explosions, so I was extremely lucky because it happened incredibly fast,” de Vink said.

Indonesian ambassador Burhan Muhammad suffered 75% burns and is in critical condition.

Bernama reported Malaysian Deputy High Commissioner to Pakistan Aiyub Omar as saying DNA samples from Habibah’s siblings were needed to identify her remains.

“This has been communicated to Wisma Putra for further action,” the diplomat said.

Pakistan Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry told a press conference on Friday there were 19 people on board the helicopter, of whom 12 were rescued.

I must step in here and say, the conduct of some of the Indians on this very forum and their Media has been extremely DESPERATE and PATHETIC.

The Indian Members on this Forum and their Media has been consistently trying to paint it as an attack by the TTP. Pakistan's Foreign Office has rejected this, Defence Minister has rejected this and most importantly the Foreign dignitaries present there have also rejected this. How much more proof do you want that this wasn't a Terrorist Attack?

I mean how much more desperate can you get, that you're using such a tragedy to score some brownie points. Tsk Tsk

well, here's the thing. If you made an investment of substantial funds, wouldn't you expect that investment to grow, expand and give you the fruits you desire? How far would you go to save that investment if it were in trouble?

Similar situation can be found in this case with India and raw and ttp. We all know now the RAW Involvement With TTP. Under Gen Raheel Shreef, army have blown the whole RAW cover wide open. Ttp is a huge indian investment and thwy expect certain jobs done and certain results produced esp. When it comes to targeting foreigners in Pakistan. Ttp produced the results for them in 09 when they targeted the Sri Lankan cricket team.

Now however, ttp are a shell of their former self. But that's not to say that Indians still aren't doling out cash and arms to ttp. So, now this time, when ttp didn't deliver but a mishap did happen, they quickly tried to seize the opportunity by owning up to it. And Indians gotta of course, save their investment, so they went and towed their line, to make it appear that ttp is still operational.

Indians are gonna do their best to make sure ttp and BLA and other assets, probably MQM in pakistan not only survive but thrive. It's their investment and they're gonna go to extreme ends to save them.
