North Korea confirms its fourth nuclear test - live

Moscow and Washington are 12,000 km away from Korea, that what I know. Damn. Russia and America win again. China gain nothing. Japan loses. And North Korea will not nuke South, they are same ethnics, though two nations.

This is good news for the long term survival of East Asians.
Han Chinese achieved thermonuclear weapons in 1967.

Koreans achieved thermonuclear weapons in 2016.
First two non-white, non-Western peoples to achieve thermonuclear capability.

It's also important to mention that the Korean peninsula is a very strategically important location throughout history. It is the entry point for nearly all foreign invasions into the Asian mainland.

The Japanese invaded during the late 16th century.

The Japanese did it again in the late 19th century.

The Americans invaded during the mid 20th century.
Korean War - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Why would all these wars happen if the location was not strategically important?

Now we finally have a nuclear-armed North Korea as an impenetrable roadblock on the Korean Peninsula. Bad news for invaders. Good news for peace in the region.

The South Korean Military can take care of them. @sEoulman556

That, indeed, is a risk of open war. However, i doubt the North Korean Leadership would be as suicidal to use strategic missiles on Seoul since a strike on Seoul would mean an imminent strike from the United States and other world powers. To do so would definitely condemn the North Korean Regime. Containing North Korea is a responsibility of the Chinese , who have a unique bilateral channel of communication with Kim Jung Un.

I think the confidence in the first post is spoiled by the second one.

If taking care of NK's military means taking care through US and the other players, then SK truly cannot take care of what packs the NK punch! A more sane approach from SK would rather be to slowly alienate itself from the dreaded position of someone's proxy. Not easy considering the hostile NK but then again US and the others would not risk facing the threat of nukes to its borders or international installations over SK's safety alone

We'd better wish the N.Korea won't become next Middle-East near our border, or N.Korea just wanna change a new master like the U.S. Many Chinese ppl still believed the N.Korea-China r ally after Korea War ... that's not the truth, N.Korea owning Nuke is against China interests in Korean Peninsula ... current PEACE fit for current BeiJing's diplomatic policy but any action like the Nuke breaking the military balance in Korean Peninsula. The BeiJing dislike anyone to set FIRE near our border especiallly in Korean Peninsula ... now the N.Korea doing the bad.

Today is not the 1950, today China won't support N.Korea, won't support a nuclear armed N.Korea. Simply speaking, our interests is different between 2016 and 1950 ... just see which side China doing more trades ? A war or a potential war, will break the way of China making money ... that's the most threat to current China.
Governments around the world always talk one way but do the other way around. We should not judge a country's position by their words but by their actions, actions speak louder than words. China voiced much displeasure over N.Korea on many issues, but those are merely shows intended for the west. China still pumps billions of dollars and everyday food and energy supply to prop up N.Korea. If China chose to cut them off, N.Korea will collapse in no time, but why China keeps doing so everyday? It won't take a rocket scientist to figure it out.

Yes ... it sounds like setting a time bomb near ur bedroom, the touble is the time bomb not controlled by urself. LOL ... anyways this time bomb much closer to BeiJing compared with U.S and Russia ... now BeiJing get a trouble 放任朝鲜,自找麻烦.

Those USD and Food not for N.Korea's nuclear project ... just for maintain N.Korea subsistence, but the nuke is a surprise ! If China cut them off, if U.S willing to support N.Korea instead of China ... i do trust N.Korea will be a new good dog for American, the only problem is how much costs Washington willing to pay for N.Korea young leader. The North Korea just wanna tell BeiJing and Washington, u can buy me and i have a nuke, a useful helper !

China knows US will never support N.Korea cause the foundation of that country is based on anti-US. China is not a saint by giving away fortunes, there's a reason why China has to have N.Korea there. It's just way too obvious. anyway, just keep one thing in mind. in politics, don't listen to what they say, see what they do.

Nobody can control North Korea, who only care their brother South Korea. They know China, Russia, America and Japan will find every method to keep a peaceful balance in peninsula, so North Korea feel definitely free. Unification motivation is the final goal for north and south parts. Everything they do is for the goal. This is also the dilemma, because both north and south part don't have the ability to unify in near future. This mistake can originate back to 1946, in the year beginning of cold war, America and Russia decided to divide peninsula two nations.

Too naive, why not ?

Mao's China also based on anti-US, even fought Korea War with U.S lead U.N Army ... killed U.S.A soldiers. It sounds like USSR and Vietnam knows US will never support China cause the foundation of that country is based on anti-US... then what ? LOL ! National interests much bigger than traditional ally and supporter, so they still come ... and i said N.Korea just wanna prove they r a useful helper for U.S and China, anyone can pay for a high price to buy them, coz they have a nuke !

The total Indian atomic nuclear arsenal is one megaton (according to Nuclear Threat Initiative or NTI).

That's not very far from the total North Korean yield.

For comparison, China's thermonuclear arsenal is at least 294 megatons.

Thanks bro, let's focus on thermonuclear agenda, others are irrelevant.

If this H-bomb test is true, then it's a big change. Thermonuclear warheads are a whole new league of deterrance.

The other part of the equation is vector. What is NK progress on ICBM that are capable of delivering thermonuclear warheads? Despite NK could be progressing in tech, they still lack deep industrial capabilities, not to mention limited access to essential materials like fissiles, so how deeply is PLA Rocket Force involved in this behind closed doors?
