What's new

North-East racial slur could get you jailed for five years Read more at:

I am sure the new law is just lip service and even an ethnic Indian yells racist slur at aboriginal Northeast Indians they won't end up in Jail for not even 5 days.

Northeast India (Burmese land) should break away from India and become an Independent country !!!
LIKE BALOCHISTAN BECOME INDEPENDENT COUNTRY (IRANIAN LAND).:pakistan:

Good intentions, but law is too harsh and can easily be misused. Racism is bad, and I would personally like to knock a few teeth out of people in Delhi/Mumbai who make fun of North Easterners, but this law is not going to address racism properly.

Bad decision. Its votebank politics. Congress has given free hand to pro-Christ terror missionaries in north-east to bias/communalise people into anti-Hindu mode through conversion. This new law is a public confession of same appeasement policy. This is how Congress develops "interest-groups" across communities by dividing them so they keep voting to Gandhi family forever.

Now calling some1 saffron terrorist is not communal anymore but calling a north-eastern a chinki(which is a nationality, not religion) is a sign of hate.

As Jayalalita said, Chidambaram is not only anti-Tamil but also anti-Hindu. Congress is dividing India, by selectively choosing stereotypes and giving them racial color.

Racism never existed in Indian society. It was never part of Hinduism. All these allegations of racism started with British educated barristers like chidambaram and Ambedkar. There is one thing common in both - both educated from British, both hate Hindu history and view things with British eyes.

+ maybe an education program instead of/coupled with this jail time would be more effective.

It is only a minority of north-east students who complain about "chinki" remark, majority of them doesn't find it insulting and laugh it off.

Shahrukh khan's movie "Chak de India" had shown some scene of North-east Indian being treated as outsider when she appears at tournament entry form. The interesting thing is, such mentality exists in minority and is only going down with time due to increasing communication routes(demographic progression/mixing of population) and in such situation, if anybody says that such mentality is widespread and requires a law, he definitely has some "sinister" motive(votebank politics).

This stupid law will send two messages now -
1. All north-east students will assume that they are "discriminated section" of society and will start pushing for reservations/special rights as given to any minority groups in India(which is wrong in itself). Congress will have no issues in cuddling such vested political groups and using them to develop vote-lobbies.
2. This will put a bad precedent of intolerance in all communities across India. So, now if you can't take a simple humor like "chinki" then, you can't take anything else in life. This law will actually alienate majority section from north-east guys, because now legally speaking, Government has identified North-east student as a separate tribe.

In western countries, racial divide has increased within communities wherever Government interefered in social matters/terms/communication. It is best to leave the public life to people and politicians should keep their noses out of how one decides to talk with others. This law will do more harm than good in my opinion.

Chidambaram has been educated to be a "hater", by his british education. British always worked to bring laws which interferes/monitors/manage/alter "social relations" between ethnic groups of India to saw dissent. A racist idiot, using same policies which British used to racially divide India.

That is not true, being from NE I know that all NE students with mongoloid features(there are people in NE who don't have mongoloid features) find the term "chinki" highly offensive.

Evanglic exteremism or terrorism is indeed a problem in Nagaland and parts of NE, but the the sensitiveness of NE people compared to rest of Indian is also a equally important problem.

Notice that the NE insurgents unlike Kashmir are local, the fact they less represented in Indian society and Indian history makes them feel more alien to rest of India.

Their sensitivities should be addressed, if NE should continue to remain a part of India.

If sharing looks was the key to unity and single statehood, than the whole Western Civilisation would have been one state..........

But is 5 years jail term worth it?

looks like some people are still stuck in pre -1971 racial mentality.

Not surprising we are seeing new lines separatism gaining momentum in that nation. :)

Same goes for Baluchisthan.

They share too much with us; history, looks, religion, and so much else
North East on the other hand doesn't even share most of it's history with you

Nope, it wasn't racism which separated us, it was our politicians greed :disagree:

Thats what some people said about East Pakistan once upon a time

You certainly don't understand what nationalism is , i doubt you ever will.

Which part of the politicians greed made them make statment such as this:

The genocide and gendercidal atrocities were also perpetrated by lower-ranking officers and ordinary soldiers. These "willing executioners" were fuelled by an abiding anti-Bengali racism, especially against the Hindu minority. "Bengalis were often compared with monkeys and chickens. Said Pakistan General Niazi, 'It was a low lying land of low lying people.' The Hindus among the Bengalis were as Jews to the Nazis: scum and vermin that [should] best be exterminated.
