Nomination of DG ISI is my authority: PM Imran Khan says in cabinet meeting today

President of Pakistan is the Supreme Commander of armed forces not PM of Pakistan

Hence the use of quotation marks: "Supreme Commander". :D

It IS the other way around, even here the DG ISI would not have been changed if IK had got his way. Let’s hope IK is the first to complete his tenure.

Let's hope so. It is important to lay down the long overdue tradition of peaceful transfer of power by due process, against the prevailing odds.
Mismanaged by GHQ which is surprising.
IK would have signed nomination papers so a consultation should had been made with PM and then DG ISI name should had been signed and then announced.
It is quiet surprising that GHQ will do this mistake. Management 101 is lacking.
!!!Avoidable controversy!!!!

Not surprising. It may be a reminder to show the true balance of de facto powers, not de jure.

Yaar the DG is a super busy man. His time is even limited for Heads of State meetings. Do you think he is read into everything. He is not, and lifers have a way of spending time on things they want others to know, while completely diluting discussions on things they don't want input into. When Kiyani was DG, he had actioned some things that were suspect, and did not sit well with the old guard. So what do you think they did. Everyone sat on things, slowed things down, till the day he became Chief. Then they reverted his decisions and started plugging the holes he had opened. Till then damage was unfortunately done.

The DDG (like Tech,IS,ES,Pol) are more hands on., but nothing in comparison to single stars and Col level. I think we'll leave it at this.
We can agree to disagree.

I know that he is even read into the initiation of small projects, like the start of a 10 lacs/month initiative by some 2-star.

I do agree that people slow things, dilute info, share less, make shit up, etc. And of course the 1-stars and --- especially --- lifer Cols, actually have to implement the orders and therefore can control things. That's why it is always great to have a very active 2-star for each Wing who doesn't take any BS from his OCs and follows up in person, firing the ones that don't deliver. But such men are rare, and the lifers make it hard for such people to survive / be effective (as you've mentioned.)

I think we are parsing hair now. First ongoing projects get far less up stream scrutiny than new projects. Ongoing projects can easily be dropped into a fog if required. Second there is one thing to give funding needs and broad program parameters, and another to be read in. It is the later which is sensitive that is kept highly compartmentalized. DGs have the right to probe into anything. But those that do and do at a greater than normal detail raise suspicion. This is the nature of all good intel outfits. And naturally the institution then reacts and we have the info avoidance part that kicks in, in an effort to bide time. Some DGs are more disruptive than others. Good ones keep at broad strokes and let the institution operate freely. ISI is too critical for Pakistan's National Security, for 3 year stints to cause trouble. My reason for writing this and above comments is to say that DGs come and go, the institution is here to stay and will. So all this hoopla about a DG should be taken with a deep breath. That is all.

Also let me tell you one other thing. Not all generals are the same. There are Generals of the Pak Army that are part of the institution. Even after retirement the institution aligns them into their mindshare and keeps them close. Others they just cut and let go.

No, it's a constitutional issue. PM Imran Khan must agree on new name sent by GHQ. GHQ alone cannot dictate his name to PM Imran Khan.
Well, we will find out if IK was selected or elected. This is ISI and army your talking about. The Indians and many Pak haters claim the military runs Pakistan. Welll we are about to test this claim. IK should either get booted out or cut to size if that claim is true.

My feeling is IK will prevail. Things are never black/white. If civilian government is corrupt and has no mandate the army will throw it's weight about. However if the PM has backbone and traction in the country the military will be accomodate. So let us see how this plays out. The Indians are saying IK's days are now numbered.

Bah !

Imran Khan chose do give extension to current army chief which got more votes from parliament than Imran Khan's own election as PM of Pakistan 😂
