New Delhi/ United Nations:

China has withdrawn a notice for a discussion at the United Nations Security Council today on Jammu and Kashmir. A French diplomatic source told NDTV, "Kashmir will not be discussed in the Security council today. Our position has been very clear. Kashmir issue has to be treated bilaterally. We have highlighted this several times recently, including in New York."

Another round of India-China boundary talks are expected in a few days.

Reuters earlier reported that Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, in a letter to the Security Council on December 12, had expressed concern about a possible further escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan after New Delhi revoked Jammu And Kashmir's autonomy on August 5. This was backed by Beijing, its close ally.

"In view of the seriousness of the situation and the risk of further escalation, China would like to echo the request of Pakistan, and request a briefing of the Council on the situation of Jammu and Kashmir," China's UN mission wrote in a note to council members, the news agency reported.

But the move has been shelved for now. Diplomatic sources, however, do not rule out a discussion in the future.

The UNSC had met on Kashmir in August, the first such meeting in decades after India revoked J&K's special status. China had also strongly criticised the move to reorganise Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories.

Probably because of two reasons
1) china always maintained neutrality on Kashmir issue calling it bilateral
2) it will give other states.yo poke their nose in china's internal affairs

Kashmir isn't an internal issue to begin with.

India calls it internally an internal issue. Internationally a bilateral issue. What's with the two faces.

As far as I am concerned, this is an Indian source. You say that China is okay with calling it bilateral when we both know that China raised the issue of Ladakh territory when the special status of Kashmir was removed, this is not them standing for only our claim but their own claim as well.

So stop pretending, thanks.

CHina has HongKong to worry about. So far only US has raised this issue. IF China repeatedly brings up Kashmir, India may join US in raising HongKong issue

1. China never maintained neutrality on Kashmir issue.

2. They openly called out India and stood up for their claim of Ladakh.

I know kai tumharai dimaag mein gobar barha hua hai, likin thora samajh ni koshish karo tou shayed samajh aija. Your points are not valid.

In the end, its a war of words and has zero impact on ground.

The repealing of Art 370 is internal issue. The dispute is bilateral. India doesn't call Art 370 bilateral issue, internationally.

I like that. China is already seen as an expansionist country around the world, now these claims only reaffirms it.

Easy way to address this "bilateral" issue crap is to up the nuclear tension. Escalate the nuclear threat level and suddenly all the world will pay attention.
Its a bilateral issue and the world doznt want to discuss it so we ll nuke each other and u ppl then live with the nuclear fall out of that.

World will think you are nuclear blackmailing. And will sanction you to ruin. You could literally be eating grass. Don't overestimate your importance to the world.

The only country India doesn't have a border dispute with is Bhutan.
