So for a bit of a break (if you like this sort of older, nostalgic kind of thing), some good steam action very near my birthplace:

They used to back in the day run these steamers all the way up to Ooty...but in interests of preserving/maintenance and few other issues....coonoor to ooty section is now run only by newer diesel locos (this section gradient does not need the rack+pinion found only on the steamers either).

Yes for sure tourism is big part of economy now there. Back in the day though it was also a strong commercial link between the low country and the mountain area....till more roads etc opened up to make use of trucks, buses etc that had improved a lot since the time rail was far more dominant form of large transport.

School summer holiday fair when I was a wee lad, we would have a gent each year that would bring, set up in the large open playground area and operate his miniature ridable train set ( i forgot what the class series size was called). It was oil-fired live steam like this:
