The new Iranian-made Arash, a 20mm anti-material rifle enters in service withe Iranian Armed Forces. The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) equipped its forces with a new shoulder-launched weapon named ‘Arash’ and a home-made sniper rifle dubbed ‘Siyavash’.

The new Iranian-made Arash 20mm anti-material rifle was tested during massive wargames, codenamed Payambar-e Azam 8 (The Great Prophet 8), in Southern Iran.

The IRGC’s combat weapons were first put on display during a visit by IRGC Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari to an exhibition of the latest military achievements of the IRGC Ground Force’s Research and Self-Sufficiency Jihad Organization in Tehran on November 18.

Arash is a 20mm shoulder-launched weapon. Arash is an anti-helicopter weapon system, but it can also destroy land and logistic targets with maximum precision. The weapon system can destroy targets within the range of 1,800 meters.
In February 2013, the IRGC test-fired the shoulder-launched weapon Arash with the capability of shooting down choppers in its massive wargames, codenamed Payambar-e Azam 8 (The Great Prophet 8), in Southern Iran.

Elaborating on the missions of the drills, Spokesman of the Wargames General Hamid Sarkheili told reporters that the new shoulder-launched anti-chopper weapons which have been designed and produced by the IRGC's local experts would be delivered to the operating units in the wargames.

"The 20-mm shoulder-launched missile is an anti-chopper weapon which can hit targets from a distance of 1,400 meters," Sarkheili stated.

Shoulder fired? Dude would stick out like a sore thumb.

Any video of the weapon test fire?

Would have done much better just copying the lahti...the shoulder config limits its usefulness.

I like math, and pie 3.14159
So lets do the math on this one .

Think of a clock face with all the numbers being 1400 meters from the central point, and or the numbers being 12 men armed with the 2 0 mm A.H.

If a chopper is at the center point 12 rifles could hit it from 12 differt sides.

But heres the fun part. With a 1400 m radioud and a 4396 m circurinced , being a man every 366 m. You could cove a area 5600 m in.dianmentor.

With 12 men you could cover 24630100 meters square or about 5000 football feilds.

I dont know about you but thats is some cheap and eassy Anti Air cover.

And thats without S.A.M.s or veichle mounted 40 mm or portable 12.7 mm

Throw a few of them in and you got your self a party.

This is not a one on one wepon is not a quick draw chopper vs man, its a support wepon uesd to cover 100 200 300 soilders in the feild.

It a portable A.A that can be loaded on a motor bike and race forward to cover a advance of mass troops.

10 rounds of 20 mm take up a lot less space and weight and cost then one S.A.M rocket.

I would wager that it would be cheaper and better to put out 24 men with 12 20 mm A.H rifles on motor cycles then it would be to have 24 S.A.M launchers at $40 000 per each or $9200 000 just for the rockets.

Add altitude to your formula to. Also it's almost impossible to hit a chopper if it's not hovering or coming directly at you by sniper rifle.....

That why people use fire control radars and burst of ammunition...namely Pantsir.

Yes 3D lenght breth hight, if a choppers 5 km up it might be a slight problem.

Im just looking at it from a cost per number ratio a single shot $40 000 rock or a muilty shot $100 20 mm round.

If you got lots of troops and little money what would you do.

Oh and heres a crazy idea you could alway use them both.

S.A.Ms for fast moving high flying attack choppers

And

20 mm A.H for low flying slow moving transports.

A two man mobile fast moving team armed with both should do some damage.

And if you had 100 such units.

Barrett M82A2 12.7 x 99mm "bullpup" rifle.

Barret is .50

Anzio 20mm next to a Anzio .50

Which translates to the following prone position

So, for a 20mm bullpup, this is not very shocking.

It is just that there isn't anything 'launched'.... (it shoots a bullet ;-)

In Iraq, helicopter traps were set, which involved concenrtrated small arms fire.

ambush techniques along friendly routes, to include massing small-arms fires on low-flying and hovering aircraft.
