All culprits were captured then kill them in fake encounter/ fabricated accident and close the case. Legal action will take many years. If same thing happened in TN means they would be killed within a week. I don't know what Delhi police is doing???.

I am sure they will not survive the 1st year in jail....

New Delhi: A Delhi police constable has apparently died while combating the protests at India gate on Sunday (December 23).

The constable's name is Subhash Tomar. Tomar was admitted to the Ram Manohar Lohiya hospital after he was seriously injured during the clashes.

Previously, the police resorted to lobbing several teargas shells and use of force to disperse the crowd on Rajpath near the War Memorial, injuring several people including some media persons.

Why is that?

Already there are reports that one of the accused got a "welcome party" in jail by other inmates..

The issue is not about lapses in the implementation of our laws (because on paper we have the strongest of legislations), it is about requiring a change in our mentalities – and an overhaul of the mindset of the society. With every passing day people have started losing their basic values and respect for others.

This needs to be arrested and reversed. No law or police can do it. The civil society has to do it. It is also about gender sensitisation and education – of learning to look at women as human beings with a mind and voice of their own, rather than as senseless, voiceless objects.

As recent incidents from across the country have shown – whether of the young girl being raped by her father and her step father for over a year in Kerala, the Park Street rape case in Kolkata, the various cases of assault and rape that have been seen in Haryana, or the case of the five year old being raped in Karnataka – it is not about how old you are, where you live, what you wear, what you eat, or even who you are with, it is about sick people with sicker minds who see the violation of the most basic rights of a woman as a triumph of their masculinity.

It is about men who feel a sense of pride in filming their supposed acts of triumphs and circulating it to friends and public spaces like Youtube and Facebook, and most importantly, it is about our family structures, wherein men are told from childhood that they are the ‘stronger’ ones, that they need to ‘control’ their women in various manners – whether it be their mother, daughter, sister or wife – that they need to assert their ‘authority’.

It is also about the woman being made to feel unloved, unwanted and uncared for from even before she first opens her eyes to see this world. It is about her being made to feel ‘weak’ and always under the ‘protection’ of others, especially the men in the house. It is about her being made to feel a burden. It is about her acknowledging this ‘protection’ when she ties a Rakhi on her brother and he ‘promises’ to protect her all her life. It is about Indian society where deification and vilification of the woman occur together, within the same four walls and no one bats an eyelid. When men cannot respect the women in her homes, can we really expect them to respect the woman out on the road?

Why can we not teach the men to respect women, to step up and take responsibility and contribute to making society more safe? Why is the onus always on the woman to control what she wears, where she goes, when she goes, and on many occasions, with whom she goes. This is what needs to be addressed immediately if we wish a truly safe and secure society for our women and children.

Can't believe that others Indians are justifying breaking the law while protesting the breaking of the law. Was watching headlines Today where the idiot anchor was saying something inane like the protestors reacted violently because the riot police wore "menacing gear" which provoked the protestors. Never heard that one before. Seems like an excuse that rapists & eve teasers come up with, that they were provoked by the girl's clothes.

NEW DELHI: Hooligans and some political elements on Sunday hijacked the peaceful protests in the Capital over the gang rape of a young girl resulting in violence and attacks against public property and police, which retaliated with teargas and water cannons that led to injuries to persons on both sides.

Police said one additional DCP, an ACP and a constable were seriously injured in the violence as protests at the Central Vista entered the third day prompting clamping of prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC in New Delhi district banning the assembly of four or more persons.

The Vista is the 3-km broad avenue from India Gate that leads to Raisina hill where the PMO, Rastrapati Bhawan and home ministry among other offices are located.

The constable identified as Subash Tomar was admitted to RML hospital and reported to be in a critical condition, Delhi Police commissioner Neeraj Kumar said.

Around 100 protesters and some media personnel were also injured in the violence, police said.

Police also resorted to lathicharge and lobbed around 150 teargas shells to disperse the protesters.

Special commissioner of police (law and order) Dharmendra Kumar blamed "hooligans" for the violence during protests against the gang rape of 23- year-old girl in a moving bus last Sunday night and said unruly elements have "hijacked" peaceful demonstrations.

Delhi Police in its report to Union home ministry said that some "vested interests" had joined the protesters and were instigating violence.

Protesters led by yoga guru Ramdev and former Army chief V K Singh clashed with police at Jantar Mantar on Sunday afternoon when they were prevented from marching towards India Gate.

Aam Aadmi Party's Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia sat on a dharna near Hyderabad House on Ashoka Road, close to India Gate.

The youth outfit of BJP also took part in the protests. Dharmendra Kumar disclosed that a former Chief Justice of India will constitute the Commission of Inquiry which will go into the gang rape incident, lapses by police and measures to be taken to ensure safety of women in Delhi and other parts of the country.

The girl was again put on ventilator after doctors at Safdarjung hospital subjected her to various tests as her condition continued to be critical.

True, the demonstrations prove it. Everyone is breaking the law but the argument is that it is a minor offense & done with "good" intentions & therefore the police must not take any action on the vandalism that happened. Exactly why we have lax policing everywhere. Want crimes to be controlled, want one's own "minor" offenses to be overlooked. While some of the protestors are genuine, there is a large lumpen element that is there only to riot. Pretty sure that all the usual molesters & eve teasers have joined up there. Easy pickings. Most protestors seem to have no idea of what they want except that they are angry. While anger helps, misdirected anger is such a waste.

Tragic, tragic time, especially when I have a terrible feeling that the poor girl who was the unfortunate victim is starting to sink. Feel very sad.

Praising the youth for their efforts to protest against the gang-rape of a young girl and demands for justice, Bollywood celebrities today said that the country has a great future.

Thousands of young men and women, mostly students, marched towards India Gate and Raisina Hills yesterday as well as today to demand speedy justice in the case heinous crime against the 23-year-old girl on a moving bus a week ago in Delhi.

The police had attempted to disperse the protesters yesterday by using teargas shells and water cannons.

Today they were asked to vacate the location by the police which said the area was under Section 144 of CrPC which bans the assembly of four or more persons.

But that did not deter the bravehearts from their goal of asking for stringent punishment for the accused.

"All over the world it's the young who are the harbingers of change. 50 per cent of India under 25 years. Don't let energy dissipate. Become catalysts," actress Shabana Azmi posted on Twitter.

Actor Anupam Kher wrote, "India has great Future. Thanks to it's youth. You can't fool them. You can't frighten them. You can't suppress them. Jai Ho."

"Uprising of new generation India has achieved a mega victory. Now every police station in India knows rape can't be belittled. Government's closure of metro stations and bridges into Delhi, to prevent protesters assembling, is totally undemocratic," actor Kabir Bedi tweeted.

"Indian youth have proved they are not just demographic statistics in economic models. They are a potent and fiery political force of change," Shekhar Kapur tweeted.
Fimmaker Onir said, "Politicians should address the problem but leave the protests to peaceful students. Dont let the goons come in."

Filmmaker Shirish Kunder wrote, "The rapist got angry because the girl protested. The police got angry because the people protested. So where really is the difference?"
"Change is yours if you want it. Youthpower Delhigangrape," posted Lisa Ray.
TV actress Mandira Bedi posted, "It's a matter of pride that the youth have taken this stand and have let it take on such momentum. This protest will not let up easily. As it shouldn't."

Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra tweeted, "Lets vote carefully next time, not for a party, not for a caste, not for a religion, not for greed, and certainly not in fear."
Director Madhur Bhandarkar retweeted another user's words, "What is this democracy I'm living in? Can't protest online (Sec. 66A). Can't protest offline (Sec. 144)."
