This law is created for the same purpose
The problem is to deal with an accute deterioation in the Chinese society that the care to parents are given way to the children's other priorities like works and play etc. It is a shame that a natural responsibility of the children towards their parents have to be enforced by law. But who is to blame? The filial bondage is gradually broken by dominance of other values.
I hope the Government has taken adequate analysis and evaluations before the law is enacted. If the studies have proven the weight of the deterioation is severe then it is a good law because not only it requires the children to observe it but also it regulates third parties like employers to give due respect to the workers' family needs as well.

This difference between most of us in democracies and you guys. you need to govt to tell you / make it criminal on how to conduct your personal life in even aspects of how many visits you make to your parents , quality of visits... can't wait till they tell which foot to use first to wear your pants next.

NO- Only sheep like you see this govt mandate as good thing. Now only if they have a law against you guys yelling on cell phones . Then again if most Chinese are like you then I guess you need to prodded like cattle.

What if the son, assuming the son for now, is in military service or some governmental position and is deployed often for the sake of the state? Then you write in an exception.

You cannot deny the reality that there will be exceptional situations where the law has not anticipated. You seems grossly naive in this respect. You do not seems to understand that the more exceptions (amendments) there are in a law, the more loopholes there will be because people are that creative.

In the end, this law will create more headaches than it solves. Not all laws are good laws and even when they are good does not mean they are well written. Your blind acceptance of this proved what I said earlier -- that the Chinese members here will place nationalism over common sense. The Chinese government can do no wrong, even when it is evidently wrong.

This plus the gender gap. Both are direct consequences of the one-child law. It is drastic and unnecessary. If there are two parents, a two-child limit would achieve stabilization of population growth. Did the one-child law took into consideration the death of that one child thru accidents or illnesses? In most traditional cultures, people honor their parents. But because of modern thinking of individualism, people start to think for themselves and care only about themselves. This create a self centered society and breaks down structures that make the country strong, especially the family structure.
