The Indian search, rescue and relief team in Nepal is still undertaking relief efforts without proper coordination with the government of Nepal. The Kantipur Online Portal reports quoting security personnel stationed at the Tribhuwan International Airport that the Indian rescue helicopters are being flown to Nepal-China border rather than working as per the need of the hour.
“The Indian team is mostly focused on flying towards Langtang of Rasuwa and Lukla of Solukhumbu,” claims the report and adds, “They have been insisting on flying towards Tatopani.”
Langtang, Lukla and Tatopani are located along Nepal’s border with China.
China has already expressed its dissatisfaction over activities of the Indian Army and has urged the Nepali side to restrict the activities of Indian relief team.
The Nepali Army officials who have been coordinating foreign search and rescue teams are already exhausted by the activities of the Indian relief team, also reports Kantipur.
“We have heard some complaints. We want all teams providing relief measures in Nepal to work in tandem and in coordination with each other as supervised by us”, said Binoj Basnyat of Nepal Army talking to Kantipur.
“Our objective is to support the victims. If there is any problem we will resolve it soon,” he said.
Saroj Raj Adhikari writes further for Kantipur, “India was the first to respond by sending its search and rescue team along with the relief materials. However, the behavior exhibited by Commanders of the Indian Army has annoyed the officials of Nepal Army who have the duty to coordinate with the foreign rescue teams.”
The Central Committee member of the ruling United Marxist Leninist Party, Rajan Bhattrai tells Kantipur, “We have been told that the Indian relief teams do not want to work in tandem and in coordination with other teams. They are only focused on rescuing their own citizens and they have some other priorities too.”
What are other priorities of the Indian team, Bhattarai did not disclose.
One Nepali media man who was flown to Lukla in the Indian Army helicopter, Friday said, “It seems that Indian team is also interested in properly scrutinizing the northern region of the country.”
