take a news paper recite the whole page on top of your voice early in the morning in some park or your terrace or where you are alone ..keep doing the same for a month then ask about your skills from your teacher or anybody ...trust me it works

Buy the book "American accent training" by Ann Cook or take some courses on American English phonology. The book I said also has a section that talks about the mistakes Indians make when they try to speak in American English.
Also try to explain your ideas in English every time you want to do something that you haven't done before. That's what I always do in my mind to learn how to think properly in English.

Well, speaking in front of the mirror might help. I have seen my dad practice his presentations that way.

Unlike GRE or GMAT, where higher the score the better, TOEFL is about threshold. 105 is a good score. Most top US Universities have their threshold TOEFL scores some where between 100 and 105 for their post graduate program. This include Stanford, Chicago, MIT etc.. However, if you are planning for PhD, then perhaps you should have a TOEFL score of 110.

My suggestion. If you are applying for post graduate programs, instead of concentrating on TOEFL, concentrate on you applications, SOPs/essays, recommendations, and GRE/GMAT.

I'm having a problem here.

I have my TOEFL coming up and I'm having trouble in the speaking section.

Has anyone here taken the TOEFL?

Now my English is not bad but the thing is that when I sit down to speak in front of the computer, I start to fumble. Words just seem to stick to my tounge. I'm practicing but can't see much improvement and there's little time left.

A word of advice will be greatly appreciated.

I had trouble in the listening part for a very stupid reason. The listening parts were so long and then at the end of it they would ask questions, I was like I understand it fine but I can't remember the whole thing!

Try to speak properly - I don't think they cut marks if you have an Indian accent but you should try to speak without an accent (which means American accent if you were wondering) to avoid a bias. Don't speak fast. If you are fumbling, more than likely you're fast at English rather than slow. Try to be slower. Don't rush the punctuation.

Also, please make note - its easy peezy, especially if you're from an IGCSE type schooling system.

Read English orally for instance newspapers, and try to speak to yourself in English as much as you can.

Spot on! That's the ONLY way you can improve your English fluency. Now, I don't mean reading a paragraph or two for 5/6 minutes. I mean you gotta do this for at least 2 hours a day! Read loud from good English newspapers like the TOI or HT etc and don't restrict your voice and speak in whispers. The louder the better!

Second, follow BBC English News regularly - at least 1 hour a day for diction as well as that all-important 'body language'! Speaking like a dummy on a flag pole will get you nowhere. You gotta 'express' yourself not only verbally but back it up with body language too!

Well here's what I think worked for me in the TOEFL.

I followed the guy Joseph of notefulldotcom from youtube. His advice was a goldmine. All of his videos were a godsend. Seriously.

Another thing that I think helped me was that I practiced speaking like some 500 times.

I would record my response to a question. Re-record it.re-re-re-record it unless I got my speech right.

That's what I think worked.
